Alaves vs. Valencia Predictions and Preview

Few people would have predicted Alaves to be sitting in fifth position in La Liga at the winter break but their unbeaten home record has steered them to lofty heights.

They won 1-0 at Real Sociedad last time out to leapfrog Real Betis into sixth and continue their fairytale start to the campaign.

Valencia’s last gasp win over basement side Huesca was just their fourth league victory in 17 attempts but was enough to lift them into eighth place.

Marcelino’s side have struggled in front of goal this season and draws have been their downfall, with 10 of their matches in La Liga having this outcome.

Unsurprisingly, neither side are clear favourites for this encounter as Alaves are at odds of 21/10 with a Valencia victory priced at 29/20 and the draw available at 85/40.

Alaves have managed just 19 league goals this season while Valencia have four fewer, while they have the third and fourth strongest defensive records respectively. Under 1.5 goals is available at 13/8 while less than 2.5 goals is at 8/15.

A ‘double chance’ on Alaves to come away with either a draw or a win is available at 8/15 while a Valencia win/draw outcome is at 1/3.

If you fancy the away side to be leading at both half-time and at the final whistle, such odds are available at 16/5.

Latest Form

One to watch for Alaves: Jonathan Calleri is the top scorer this season for Alaves with four league strikes including the recent winner in the 1-0 victory at Real Sociedad. The Argentine is available at 11/4 to find the net here.

One to watch for Valencia: Rodrigo Moreno netted in three of Valencia’s four games against Alaves last season and scored in the recent draw against Eibar. He is available at a tempting 49/20 to score again in this one.

Long shot: Only two teams have conceded fewer than Valencia (14) in La Liga this season, while Alaves defence is next strongest (17) while they have both struggled for goals. Odds of this game to finish scoreless are at 6/1.
