Arsenal v Manchester United Predictions and Preview

Mikel Arteta suffered his first defeat as Arsenal boss last weekend. The Gunners were leading against Chelsea until the final 10 minutes before Jorginho and Tammy Abraham got on the scoresheet.

The North London side were better in all departments for a large portion of the contest and were left bitterly disappointed at the final whistle. On a positive note, the former Manchester City number two will have been pleased with his team’s commitment as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang worked tirelessly from a wide left role and tracked back throughout.

Aubameyang is 10/3 to open proceedings and add to his domestic haul of 13. Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette is 5/4 to strike anytime. Arsenal are 6/4 to make it back-to-back wins and climb up the table in the process.

Elsewhere, Manchester United ended 2019 on positive note, beating Newcastle and Burnley respectively. The Reds sit in fifth, four points adrift of Chelsea and will be quietly confident given their form against the so called ‘bigger sides’.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have beaten Chelsea, Manchester City, Leicester and Tottenham Hotspur, and remain the only side to take points off runaway leaders Liverpool.

Solskjaer will task Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial with taking down the Gunners and the Red Devils legend will be buoyed by their developing partnership.

Only Jamie Vardy and Aubameyang have netted more than Rashford, while his strike partner has 10 goal contributions to his name despite various spells out with injury. The Englishman is a big game player, and can be found at 7/2 to register first.

Martial is 5/1 in the same market. Manchester United are 17/10 to emerge victorious and 13/5 to earn a share of the spoils.

One to watch for Arsenal: Bukayo Saka is a winger by trade, but with orthodox full-backs Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolašinac out indefinitely the teenager is expected to get a run in the team. The speedster is 4/1 to net first.

One to watch for Manchester United: Daniel James will offer fresh legs after the break and is an attractive 11/1 to score last. Arsenal have showed they are susceptible to the Reds’ counter attacks in recent fixtures and the Welshman will relish the space afforded to him.

Long shot: Despite the final scoreline against Chelsea, there were reasons to be cheerful for Arteta. The Gunners played some scintillating football for the first 60 minutes and tend to come out of the blocks quickly when United visit Emirates Stadium. A 3-1 success, giving the Spaniard his first win in the dugout, is 20/1.
