With seven Serie A fixtures remaining, it’s all to play for as European contenders Atalanta and Inter face off on Saturday evening.
After a winter surge, Milan now appear to be out of the reckoning for a top four place with Roma, Lazio and the Nerazzurri battling it out to claim the final two Champions League positions.
Where and when: Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia – 14 April, kick-off 19:45
Where you can see Atalanta vs. Inter: BT Sport 2, William Hill live streaming
Last time: Mauro Icardi was predictably the difference when the sides met at Giuseppe Meazza back in November. The Argentine netted either side of the break to make it 13 games unbeaten in the league.
Atalanta v Inter Predictions and Preview
The hosts sit in ninth, a mere four points off the Europa League places and have a reasonable run-in to contend with. Clashes against SPAL, Benevento, Genoa and Cagliari will present the perfect opportunity to put the pressure on Milan and Fiorentina and the Orobici are well in the hunt to repeat last term’s exploits.
Ex-Inter boss Gian Piero Gasperini has a talismanic performer of his own and Alejandro Gómez will be vital to the outcome of the showdown with their visitors on the night. Atalanta are 17/10 to chalk up a 14th triumph while Gomez is 21/3 to register the final effort of the match.
After the 1-0 defeat away at Torino, Inter now find themselves in fifth spot despite losing only four times all year. In comparison, Roma and Lazio have both been defeated seven times but have picked up two more wins. The Nerazzurri could conceivably be playing catch-up if they fail to record maximum points and results elsewhere go against them in game week 32.
The Nerazzurri are the marginal favourites for the contest at 13/8 while Icardi is 7/2 to hit the net twice. The Inter skipper is three behind current top scorer Ciro Immobile and it promises to be a fascinating watch as the pair go head to head on the final day of the campaign on May 20.
Meanwhile, over 3.5 goals is priced at 3/1 and presents good value considering both outfits have very recently thrashed Verona and Sampdoria by five goals. The both teams to score offer is available at 3/4.
One to watch for Atalanta: Josip Ilicic has double figures for the season and has adapted well in an unfamiliar striking role. The talented Slovenian is 13/2 to open the scoring.
One to watch for Inter: João Cancelo is a typical modern day full-back and offers great width on the right hand side. The Valencia owned defender is 18/1 to bag anytime and needs no encouragement to get forward.
Long shot: Historically, the Orobici fare well in this fixture and have only tasted defeat once in the last eight meetings between the teams in Bergamo. Furthermore, Atalanta have been stronger on home soil this term and the statistics underline this. Gasperini’s men have struck more goals, won more ties and conceded less at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia and an empathic 3-0 success is 105/3.
