Atalanta v Juventus Predictions and Preview
Atalanta have made a solid start to the season following their superb campaign last time round, sitting just two points off the third place they achieved last term. They’re 10 points behind league leaders Juventus after 12 games though, with the Old Lady looking to hold off the challenge of a revitalised Inter Milan here.
The Bianconeri remain unbeaten in 16 fixtures this season in all competitions, winning 11 of their last 12. The storm surrounding manager Maurizio Sarri and star man Cristiano Ronaldo appears to have blown over after the Portuguese admitted during the international break that he’s been playing through injury for club and country.
That could cast a slight doubt over Ronaldo’s participation in this game, although he played 90 minutes for Portugal against Lithuania on Sunday, and Sarri will be keen to put any perceived issues with his top scorer to bed. Indeed, Ronaldo scored a late equaliser against Atalanta in last season’s 2-2 draw on this ground, following Duvan Zapata’s brace which had looked like handing La Dea all three points.

Atalanta needed the international break after a dip in form that’s seen them go four without a win. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have only won one of their last seven in all competitions, although that victory was a thumping 7-1 triumph over Udinese, and the Nerazzurri only lost twice.
Nevertheless, one of those defeats was a demoralising 5-1 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League, and confidence is hardly flowing through the home team here. Juve have proven time and again they are the masters of recording important wins away to their rivals towards the top of the table, and the away team are the 7/5 favourites to pick up the three points here.
The Old Lady keep churning out the wins in tight games, with 11 of their 13 victories this term coming by a single goal. That could give the hosts hope of picking up a result, and they are 2/1 to do so with a win. They’ll have to do so without Ilicic and Ruslan Malinovsky though, who are both suspended, while Remo Freuler is a doubt.
Juve meanwhile are still missing influential defender Giorgio Chiellini, while Blaise Matuidi, Alex Sandro and Miralem Pjanic are all injury doubts. A draw would maintain the away team’s unbeaten record and would be seen as a decent result for the hosts, and it’s priced at 11/4 in the betting.
One to watch for Atalanta: Luis Muriel has made an excellent start to the Serie A season, finding the back of the net eight times from just five starts and five substitute appearances. He is 5/1 for the opening goal of the game.
One to watch for Juventus: Cristiano Ronaldo scored four times during the international break to take his tally for Portugal to an incredible 99 goals. With five from 10 for Juve in Serie A so far this term, Ronaldo is the 7/2 favourite to break the deadlock on Saturday.
Long shot: These sides drew both of their Serie A meetings last season, with both teams scoring on each occasion. A score draw here is priced at 7/2, with a repeat of the 2-2 scoreline in last term’s corresponding fixture available at 12/1.
