Atletico Madrid v Getafe Predictions and Preview
Atletico Madrid go in to the new term much changed. Los Rojiblancos parted ways with defenders Filipe Luís, Lucas Hernandez, Juanfran and legendary skipper Diego Godin. Diego Simeone also lost Griezmann, who finally made the switch to Barcelona after many years of speculation.
The Argentine boss has recruited well, bringing in Kieran Trippier, Felipe, Renan Lodi and highly rated Mario Hermoso to bolster his backline. In midfield, Marcos Llorente arrives from neighbours Real and the jewel of the window, Joao Felix, from Benfica.
The Portuguese starlet has already endeared himself to the natives with his goal against Los Blancos, and a brace against Juventus last weekend. Felix will partner Alvaro Morata, though Diego Costa appears to have rediscovered his goalscoring touch in a real boost for Simeone.
Elsewhere, Getafe were just two points off from securing a Champions League berth. The Madrid based outfit were pipped by Valencia and the surprise package of the previous year. Getafe will be reliant on skipper Jorge Molina to hit the back of the net after registering 16 goal contributions on the club’s return to the top flight.
One to watch for Atletico Madrid: Thomas Lemar showed flashes of his ability in his first year at the club but should get a more prominent role following the flurry of departures. The Frenchman is 11/4 in the anytime scorer market.
One to watch for Getafe: Fellow forward Ángel Rodríguez also hit double figures, and is 6/1 to bag the final effort of the contest.
Long shot: Atleti hit 14 goals in their last four non-competitive games, but go up against one of the measliest defences in the division. Only Los Rojiblancos conceded less than Getafe, with Real and Barcelona shipping more and the longer the contest is deadlocked, the more confident the opposing squad will be of upsetting the new look hosts. A 1-0 triumph in favour of Getafe is 14/1.
