Augsburg v Koln Predictions and Preview
Augsburg are unbeaten in their last 10 games against Koln, with Die Geissbocke last tasting victory against Die Fuggerstadter back in 2011. Augsburg have won half of those meetings since, including each of their last two on home soil. However, this ‘ghost game’ presents a different challenge for the hosts at the WWK Arena on Sunday evening.
Augsburg have only managed one point from their two home games since the Bundesliga’s restart, a goalless draw against Paderborn last week in front of an empty stadium. Their sole win in their four games since football returned was a 3-0 triumph away to Schalke, which is one more victory than Koln have managed.
Markus Gisdol’s side drew both of their first two games back 2-2 against Mainz and Fortuna Dusseldorf, before two defeats against Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, conceding seven goals. That’s seen Koln slip back from European contention towards the drop zone, and they could find themselves firmly back in the relegation picture if they fail to win any of their next few games.

Augsburg to win to nil
Augsburg to win 3-0
Augsburg to win and over 2.5 goals
Gisdol must plot his team’s return to form this weekend without Dominick Drexler and Sebastiaan Bornauw, who are both suspended, as well as the injured Marcel Risse and Mark Uth. Niklas Hauptmann is another fitness doubt, along with the man who saved Koln from defeat against Augsburg earlier this season, Cordoba.
The home team, meanwhile, are missing Simon Asta and Andre Hahn to injury, although the latter could return to training within the next week or two. Alfred Finnbogason, Fabian Giefer and Julian Schieber are also rated as doubtful for this game, which could prove crucial for both team’s fortunes this term.
Koln start the game as the 31/20 favourites in the betting, which would be a big victory for them. Augsburg are 29/16 to take a massive three points themselves, while you can back the draw on Sunday at 88/35.
One to watch for Augsburg: Florian Niederlechner’s opener against Koln earlier in the season was one of the German’s 11 Bundesliga goals in his first campaign for Augsburg. He is his team’s top scorer and 13/2 to open the scoring in this game.
One to watch for Koln: The visitors will be desperate for top scorer Jhon Cordoba to be fit for this game. He’s on 12 league goals for the season and will be the 27/5 favourite to open the scoring should he be fit to play.
Long shot: Should Cordoba not make it, Koln are really going to struggle for goals, with their joint-second highest scorers, Uth and Bornauw, also both out. Augsburg won 3-0 in last season’s corresponding fixture, and are 30/1 to repeat that result here.
