Bayern Munich v Augsburg Predictions and Preview

Die Roten hotshot Robert Lewandowski equalled Gerd Muller’s 50-year record against Freiburg. The German legend hit 40 in the 1971-72 campaign and Lewandowski achieved the same feat from just 28 appearances.

The former Borussia Dortmund fan favourite has surprisingly been linked to a move away from the champions in recent weeks but Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has quickly squashed the rumours with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United known admirers. The Warsaw native is 7/5 to break the deadlock, and take his place in the history books in the process.

Die Mannschaft trio Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller will support Lewandowski and the World Cup winner is set for a recall to the national team ahead of Euro 2020.

Muller has not featured for his country since 2018 but a return of 13 goals and 19 assists cannot be overlooked by Löw and his wealth of experience will boost the German attack. The versatile forward is 9/2 to open proceedings, while team-mates Gnabry and Sane are 8/13 and 9/10, respectively, to register anytime.

Kingsley Coman and Eric Choupo-Moting will get run outs after the break and the former is 13/2 to bag last. Lewandowski’s deputy can be found at 18/5 and the Bavarians are 1/8 to cap another season in style.

Travelling party Augsburg will be delighted to avoid the final day scramble for survival. Markus Weinzierl’s troops have only conceded four less than Borussia Dortmund and, if the club can recruit smartly in the summer, a top-half finish next term could be a realistic target.

Daniel Caligiuri is 33/10 to net anytime and Marco Richter is available at 9/2. The free signing from Schalke has 10 goal contributions from 32 matches and only André Hahn has scored more. Augsburg are 16/1 to spoil the Bayern party and a share of the spoils is 15/2.

One to watch for Bayern Munich: Jamal Musiala has not looked out of place in the Die Roten team despite his lack of experience. The teenager is 7/2 to notch anytime.

One to watch for Augsburg: Hahn is 19/1 to get the last effort and is a handful in the air. The striker will tussle it out with compatriot Jerome Boateng who is likely to depart the Bundesliga holders.

Long shot: It has been another successful year for Bayern who have lifted domestic and continental honours. The Bavarians are six short of the century mark in the Bundesliga and an emphatic 6-0 thrashing is 30/1.
