Bayern Munich welcome Borussia Monchengladbach to the Allianz Arena on Saturday. The home team are a wounded animal after failing to win either of their last two games, which could make them a dangerous proposition in this one.

Last time: Gladbach took the lead when the teams met in Munich in April, but Bayern stormed back to record a resounding 5-1 victory.

Bayern Munich v Gladbach Predictions and Preview

Niko Kovac faces his first test in charge of Bayern Munich. That could mean Gladbach are in for a very tough day at the office on Saturday, but it will also give the visitors some hope. Bayern are not invincible, but they are the heavy favourites for the win here.

After dropping their first points of the new season with a draw at home to Augsburg, Der FCB followed it up with their first defeat of the campaign in losing 2-0 at Hertha Berlin. Kovac’s side were two goals down at half-time and failed to produce a response in the second period, despite enjoying almost 70% of the possession and registering 25 attempts on goal.

The new Bayern boss will be looking for a response back on home soil, and his team are 11/57 to deliver one with a victory. Gladbach are major outsiders at 33/2, but they can take encouragement from beating Bayern 2-1 at home last term. They also won at the Allianz in 2015, the first of three wins in six against their more illustrious opponents, before Bayern’s thumping victory in the most recent meeting.

A draw would still be an excellent result for Gladbach, who finished ninth in the table last season. Die Fohlen are riding high this term, currently occupying fourth place at this early stage of the season. A point at the home of the champions could give them the springboard to pushing for the European places come the end of the season, and it’s priced at 15/2.

The visitors could welcome back Julio Villalba in their quest for a result, although Raffael, Josip Drmic and Louis Jordan Beyer are all doubtful for this game. Corentin Tolisso, Kingsley Coman and Rafinha continue to miss out for Bayern, while Leon Goretzka is a doubt with an ankle injury.

One to watch for Bayern: Robert Lewandowski has failed to score in his last two games, and only has one goal from open play so far this season. The Polish striker will be looking to put that right, and he is the 21/10 favourite to open the scoring.

One to watch for Gladbach: Alassane Plea has four goals for the season, with none of them coming from the penalty spot. He’s scored first three times already this season, and Plea could be worth a punt at 18/1 to strike first on Saturday.

Long shot: Bayern’s slumps never last for long, and the champions will be looking for a big win to reassert their authority. They are 19/1 to beat Gladbach 5-1 for the second time in a row.
