Bologna v Inter Predictions and Preview

Inter are very much a changed side since that defeat to Bologna last term. The Nerazzurri have splashed the cash and it’s working so far, with the Milan outfit looking like they’re going to launch their first genuine title challenge in years. The Rossoblu, on the other hand, are aiming to halt their visitors’ momentum at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

Conte’s side did lose a little of that in their 2-2 draw at home to Parma last weekend, but they recovered to win 2-1 away at Brescia in the midweek round of fixtures. The Nerazzurri have won three of their four matches in all competitions since losing to title rivals Juve in early October, including an entertaining 4-3 win away to Sassuolo and an impressive 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

The visitors will be without Alexis Sanchez for this game, with the on-loan Manchester United forward out of action until the new year due to an ankle injury. Danilo D’Ambrosio is a doubt with a broken toe, but Stefano Sensi is back in training following a thigh injury and could feature. Bologna meanwhile are sweating over Mitchell Dijks and Mattia Destro, while Gary Medel and Takehiro Tomiyasu are both injured.

Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side need all the help they can get this weekend, as they look to put their poor run of form behind them in a bid to secure a big upset. They have only won one of their last seven matches, a 2-1 victory at home to Sampdoria last weekend, losing four times since late September. That follows a run of just two defeats in their previous 15 Serie A fixtures, stretching back to last season.

Bologna’s recent victory over Inter was their first since 2013, with the Milan side emerging victorious in six of their 10 meetings since, prior to February’s game. It’d be a huge surprise if Inter fail to see off the challenge of their hosts this weekend, with the away team priced at 21/20 for the win. Bologna meanwhile are available at 5/2, with the draw coming in at 13/5.

One to watch for Bologna: Rodrigo Palacio has scored three times in Serie A so far this season, and the Argentine is 8/1 to make it four with the opening goal on Saturday.

One to watch for Inter: Romelu Lukaku has found the net seven times in his first 10 Serie outings, and the former Manchester United striker is the 4/1 favourite to break the deadlock here.

Long shot: Bologna beat Inter 1-0 the last time the teams played each other. That was in Milan, but the home team here are 13/1 to repeat that scoreline this weekend.
