Borussia Dortmund v Augsburg Predictions and Preview
Dortmund have only ever lost once to Augsburg, although Die Fuggerstadter have only been a Bundesliga side since 2011. Even so, Die Borussen have won nine of the 15 meetings between the teams, with Augsburg’s sole success coming three and a half years ago.
There is hope for the visitors in that their only victory against Dortmund came at the Westfalenstadion. They’ve also held Die Schwarzgelben to a draw on their last two visits to Dortmund. However, Lucien Favre’s side are in form and should win this game, after going top of the Bundesliga thanks to Bayern Munich’s defeat at the weekend.
The hosts are 1/2 for the victory, after they recorded an impressive 4-2 win at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Leverkusen may be struggling for form at the beginning of the new campaign, but it was a strong statement from Die Borussen nonetheless after they were trailing 2-0, coming on the back of their 7-0 victory over Nurnberg.

Augsburg also smashed in the goals at the weekend, beating Freiburg 4-1 at home. Their record so far this season reads won two, drawn two, lost two, and Manuel Baum’s side held Bayern Munich to a draw at the Allianz Arena. The away side are 63/10 for the victory here.
The draw is 19/5 and would be a very good result for the visitors. They got a 1-1 against Bayern the weekend before last, which was also the score on their two most recent trips to the Westfalenstadion. In fact, three of the last four games between Dortmund and Augsburg have ended 1-1, and another one of those is priced at 17/2 here.
The visitors will have to do without Fredrik Jensen and Dong-Won Ji for this game, while Julian Schieber and Konstantinos Stafylidis are also doubts. They could welcome back Kilian Jakob though, who’s back in training following a broken knee cap. Omer Toprak is out for the hosts, while Mario Gotze, Jeremy Toljan, Lukasz Piszczek and Sebastian Rode are all doubts.
One to watch for Dortmund: Marco Reus has four goals so far this season, including the equaliser at Leverkusen on Saturday. He is 5/1 for the first goal in this one.
One to watch for Augsburg: Alfred Finnbogason hit a hat-trick for Augsburg on their last outing, so he comes into this game full of confidence. He’s 15/2 to strike first.
Long shot: Dortmund have looked sharp in front of goal in recent weeks, although they’ve also been vulnerable at the back. They are 21/2 to win this game 3-1.
