Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich Predictions and Preview
It’s far too early in the season to start talking about title deciders, but there’s no doubt this game could have a huge bearing on where the Bundesliga title ends up in May. Victory for Dortmund would stretch their lead over Bayern to seven points, while the defending champions would cut the deficit to the pretenders to their crown to a single point with a win.
A victory for the visitors would’ve been enough for them to overtake Die Schwarzgelben, had they not thrown away two points at home to Freiburg on Saturday. Die Roten had only taken the lead through Serge Gnarby in the 80th minute, but conceded in the 89th to bring an end to their four-match winning run that had seemed to reignite their campaign.
As it is, Niko Kovac was left to bemoan two more dropped points, adding to those lost late on against Augsburg. Despite their patchy form this season though, Bayern have a strong recent record against Dortmund. The Bavarians have won the last four meetings between the sides, losing only once in the last eight league meetings.

Bayern won 3-1 at the Westfalenstadion last season, before beating Dortmund twice back in Munich – once in the German Cup and then the 6-0 mauling in the league. That demolition job is one of the reasons why Bayern start as the favourites in the betting for this one, priced at 11/10.
Dortmund are available at 47/20, after Marco Reus’s first-half strike was enough to hand them a narrow 1-0 victory at Wolfsburg on Saturday. Lucien Favre’s side remain unbeaten so far this season, winning seven of their 10 matches. Bayern, on the other hand, have failed to win four of their first 10, losing twice.
If Die Roten can get a draw on Saturday, that would feel like a decent result for the visitors. This Dortmund team is looking very good at the moment, helping themselves to 30 goals so far this season. That’s seven more than any other side, and 12 more than Bayern.
The stalemate is priced at 13/4 in the betting, and might seem even more appealing to the visitors considering they have a day less to prepare after their Champions League exploits in midweek. They’ll also be without the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Kingsley Coman and Corentin Tolisso. Dortmund meanwhile could have Mario Gotze back after an illness, while Marcel Schmelzer, Abdou Diallo and Lukasz Piszczek could all be fit.
One to watch for Dortmund: Jadon Sancho has scored three goals in his last three Bundesliga appearances, and the buzz around the English youngster’s getting louder with each passing week. He is available at 9/1 to add to his burgeoning reputation with the opening goal on Saturday.
One to watch for Bayern: Robert Lewandowski scored four goals in two Bundesliga games against Dortmund last season. The Polish hitman has five goals to his name so far this term, and he’s the 15/4 favourite to get the scoring going this weekend.
Long shot: With the way Dortmund have started this season, Saturday’s game has the potential to be a classic. Although Bayern beat them four times last term, Die Schwarzgelben won 3-2 at the Allianz Arena the season before last. The hosts are 25/1 to win this game by the same scoreline.
