The hunt continues as the Bundesliga returns from the winter break, with Borussia Dortmund hosting Wolfsburg as they try to chase runaway leaders Bayern Munich. The gap is 13 points to the Bavarians though, so perhaps it’s more important for Peter Stoger’s side to assure themselves of Champions League qualification.

Borussia Dortmund v Wolfsburg Predictions and Preview
After starting their campaign in style against a Wolfsburg side then managed by Andries Jonker, Dortmund go in search of their sixth consecutive victory over Die Wolfe. BVB flew out of the blocks winning six of their opening seven Bundesliga games while drawing the other, and they’ll hope for a similar run after the winter break.
It was the defeat at home against RB Leipzig in mid-October that heralded a run of eight without a win for Die Schwarzgelben, but Sunday’s hosts won their last two before the break and they’ll hope to pick up where they left off after also winning a couple of friendlies.
Amid news of the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, having a trial at Dortmund, their own extroverted flyer Aubameyang will lead the line. The Gabon striker netted twice in a 3-2 comeback win against Zulte Waregem in Marbella on Monday, while Jadon Sancho also impressed in the friendly. The 17-year-old will hope to add to his pair of Bundesliga appearances in this one, with Marco Reus optimistic of making his return from injury in February.
There’s no surprise that the hosts start as favourites in the betting, priced at 4/9. Wolfsburg are available at 7/1, as they look to pull away from the relegation zone. Martin Schmidt’s side are boosted by the arrival of Renato Steffen, who has joined from Swiss champions Basel. Along with fellow new boy Josip Brekalo, he’s tasked with replacing Mario Gomez who has moved back to Stuttgart.
If you think the arrival of the duo will help inspire the visitors to a welcome point, the bookmakers have the draw at 21/5. Steffen is 19/5 to mark his Wolfsburg debut with a goal, while Brekalo is 5/1 to score anytime.
One to watch for Borussia Dortmund: Aubameyang is second in the Bundesliga scoring charts behind Robert Lewandowski and has 21 goals in 23 games across all competitions so far this season. He’s 13/5 to score the first goal of the game and 8/13 to bag anytime.
One to watch for Wolfsburg: Divock Origi is 57/17 to find the target at any point in the 90 minutes, while the on-loan Liverpool striker is 11/1 to break the deadlock and register his fifth goal of the season.
Long shot: Aubameyang to score first and Dortmund to win 3-0 looks pretty tempting at 25/1, as Die Borussen record their third straight 3-0 victory over Wolfsburg. If Sancho gets the nod to start his first game for Dortmund, he could be worth a punt at 40/1 to get the first in a 3-0 home win.
