Borussia Monchengladbach v Bayer Leverkusen Predictions and Preview
Borussia Monchengladbach have got a good record against Bayer Leverkusen in recent seasons, winning three of the last four meetings between the sides, having lost three in a row before that. However, the other result in that most recent sequence was a 5-0 victory for Leverkusen on this very ground.
The atmosphere will be very different this weekend with no fans at Borussia-Park, but if anything, that ought to help the visitors in their quest to upset the odds. Monchengladbach are the favourites for the win at 11/8 in the latest betting for this game.
That status is borne out by Die Borussen’s league position, with Marco Rose’s side only six points behind leaders Bayern Munich, and two behind second-placed Borussia Dortmund. Die Fohlen returned to action with a 3-1 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend, leaving them a point clear of fourth-placed RB Leipzig and two ahead of Leverkusen in fifth.

Monchengladbach to win 2-1
Plea to score first
This is a huge game in the race to finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s Champions League. Bayer also made a winning return from the break last weekend, triumphing 4-1 away to Werder Bremen. That was Die Werkself’s eighth victory in their last 10 Bundesliga outings, with their single defeat in that run coming away to Hoffenheim.
With both teams in decent nick at the moment, the draw could be worth a look in this game. That’s priced at 14/5, although there hasn’t been a stalemate in any of the last 12 meetings between these teams. With that in mind, and Leverkusen’s storming victory at Borussia-Park last season, the away win could be tempting at 9/5.
One to watch for Monchengladbach: Alassane Plea needed less than a minute to open the scoring for Monchengladbach against Frankfurt last weekend. That was the Frenchman’s ninth Bundesliga goal of the season in 23 appearances, and he is 23/4 to reach double figures by netting the opener here.
One to watch for Leverkusen: Kevin Volland also has nine league goals to his name so far this term, and he is Leverkusen’s top scorer heading into this weekend’s key fixture. The German forward is 7/1 to break the deadlock on Saturday afternoon.
Long shot: With Monchengladbach in good form and these two teams duking it out for the Champions League places, another 5-0 demolition job for Leverkusen seems unlikely. At 200/1 though, it could be worth a euro or two as a real outside punt in this weekend’s Bundesliga betting.
