This week’s edition of Premier League Monday night football serves up a south coast derby between Brighton and Hove Albion and Southampton. The Seagulls are looking to build on a promising run of form, while the Saints are aiming to get back in the win column after letting a two-goal lead slip against Manchester United.
Where and when: Amex Stadium – 7 December, kick-off 20:00
Where you can see Brighton vs. Southampton: Sky Sports
Last time: Neil Maupay put Brighton ahead early on when the teams met at St Mary’s in July, but Danny Ings struck in the second half to rescue a point for Southampton.
Brighton v Southampton Predictions and Preview
There may be 10 places between these two teams coming into this fixture, but Monday’s encounter between Brighton and Southampton promises to be a tight affair. The Seagulls could count themselves a little unlucky to be down in 16th at present, but a win against fellow south coast outfit Southampton would do wonders for their chances of moving up the Premier League table.
Brighton have only lost one of their last six matches, a 2-1 defeat away to league leaders Tottenham. Graham Potter’s side have only won one of those games, but they put in a strong performance to draw 1-1 with champions Liverpool in their last match.
Southampton, meanwhile, were 2-0 up against Man United at half-time of their last game. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side put in a robust first-half performance but were unable to handle Edinson Cavani’s movement in the second period, as they fell to their first defeat in eight.

Southampton to win to nil
Southampton to win 1-0
Ings to score first
The Saints won five of those fixtures and even rose to the top of the table, but are now looking for their first win in three following a 1-1 draw at Wolves the week before last. The good news for Southampton fans coming into this game is that this has been a happy hunting ground for their team in recent years.
Southampton are unbeaten on their last four visits to the Amex Stadium, winning each of the last three. Indeed, Brighton have failed to win any of their last seven matches against the Saints, with their most recent victory in this fixture coming in the Championship back in 2012.
However, the home team – who are able to welcome fans back into their stadium for this game – start as the 19/12 favourites for the win on Monday. The Saints could prove excellent value at 15/8 with William Hill, while you can back the draw at 5/2 in this Brighton v Southampton preview.
One to watch for Brighton: With Neal Maupay an injury doubt, Aaron Connolly should get the nod to start up front. The Irishman has only scored four goals in 31 Premier League appearances for the Seagulls, but is a real live wire and 7/1 to open the scoring for the hosts.
One to watch for Southampton: Danny Ings could be an available for the visitors following a knee injury. That would be a massive boost for the Saints, with the English striker the 19/5 favourite to break the deadlock in these Brighton v Southampton predictions.
Long shot: All three of Southampton’s most recent trips to the Amex have ended in wins to nil for the Saints. They are 7/2 to make it four in a row. Two of those three matches were 1-0 wins, with Southampton 9/1 to repeat that scoreline here. With Ings getting the goal, those odds rise to 42/1.
