Burnley are back at home after their trip to Manchester City on Monday, as they host Watford at Turf Moor on Thursday evening. The Hornets have an extra couple of days to prepare after they were in action on Saturday over the weekend.

Last time: Burnley produced a wonderful second-half performance when the teams met at Vicarage Road back in November, scoring three times to take the spoils back to Lancashire courtesy of a 3-0 victory.

Burnley vs. Watford Predictions and Preview

Quique Sanchez Flores was sacked the week after these two teams clashed earlier this season, with Watford undergoing an impressive transformation under Nigel Pearson since that limp defeat. Burnley, meanwhile, have stuck with Sean Dyche through thick and thin over the years, and have been rewarded with another push for a European place this season.

The Europa League may have proven a fruitless venture last time, but qualifying for Europe for a second time in just three years would be stunning for a club of Burnley’s size. They could be only a few points off doing just that, given Manchester City’s Financial Fair Play troubles, with the Clarets unbeaten in seven Premier League matches before their trip to the Etihad on Monday.

That run included draws against Arsenal and Tottenham, as well as victories over Manchester United and Leicester City. Watford also enjoyed a positive result against Leicester last time out, picking up a dramatic late 1-1 draw against the Foxes after going behind in the final minute of the match.

That was enough to lift the Hornets a point clear of the relegation zone, although things are very tight at the bottom of the Premier League table. Just two points separate Watford in 16th and the 19th-placed Aston Villa, so a win here for Pearson’s side would be massive.

Somewhat surprisingly, the visitors are actually the narrow 33/20 favourites to get the win in the betting. They’ll have to do so without key man Gerard Deulofeu though, as the Spaniard continues his recovery from a knee injury, while Daryl Janmaat also has a knee issue and Isaac Success has a ruptured Achilles.

Burnley meanwhile could be without both Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes, after both strikers got their names on the scoresheet when the teams clashed earlier in the campaign. Ben Gibson will be absent once again, although Johann Berg Gudmundsson could be in contention. That’d be a boost for the 39/20 Clarets, while you can back the draw in this game at 23/10

One to watch for Burnley: If both Wood and Barnes both miss out, the hosts will need Jay Rodriguez to step up to the plate. The Englishman is the only other Clarets player to have scored more than two Premier League goals this season and he’s 6/1 to break the deadlock with his sixth of the campaign.

One to watch for Watford: Troy Deeney is Watford’s top scorer this season with just six goals so far in the Premier League. That’s indicative of the Hornets’ problems, but Deeney is 23/5 to address those by netting the opener on Thursday.

Long shot: Burnley may have turned Watford over in their own backyard earlier this season, but Pearson has had a great impact on the Hornets since taking over. Watford have two extra days to prepare for this game and won 3-1 in last season’s corresponding fixture. The away team are 25/1 to win by the same scoreline here, rising to 129/1 with Deeney scoring first.
