Cagliari v Inter Predictions and Preview
Cagliari suffered a setback on Matchday 1 but should not be downbeat after an exciting summer. Rolando Maran brought in Luca Pellegrini on-loan from champions Juventus, Marko Rog from Napoli, highly-rated Nahitan Nandez from Boca Juniors and crowd favourite Nainggolan, who returns for a second spell at the club.
In Nainggolan, the ambitious Sardinians possess one of the division’s best midfielders and the enigmatic Belgian is capable of steering Cagliari to a top 10 finish. Further forward is Pavoletti, and the burly hitman is equally adored in the terraces.
The 30-year-old initially join the Rossoblu in August 2017 on loan from parent club Napoli but the moved was soon made permanent after averaging a goal every three appearances.
Pavoletti bettered this ratio in 2018-19, scoring 16 from 32 matches, form which deservedly earned him a call to Roberto Mancini’s national setup.
With EURO 2020 around the corner, the Livorno native is firmly in the reckoning and a 15-goal haul should be enough to secure a place on in the final 23. Pavoletti is 6/1 to register first while Cagliari are 19/4 to claim all three points.
Opponents Inter are in ominous mood. Nerazzurri new boys Stefano Sensi and Romelu Lukaku both bagged on their league debuts and Conte will be particularly pleased with his new striker.
Ex-Manchester United attacker Lukaku had little to no pre-season with his old club but was thrown in against Lecce and delivered. The Belgian is 3/1 to open the scoring and Inter are 8/13 to make it two wins from two. The draw is 11/4.
One to watch for Cagliari: Cagliari fought off a lot of competition to snap up Nandez and the Uruguayan is 11/1 to get on the scoresheet anytime during the encounter.
One to watch for Inter: Antonio Candreva is a man reborn under former Azzurri tactician Conte. The versatile midfielder is 5/2 to score anytime and make it two goals from as many matches.
Long shot: Cagliari won 8 of their 19 fixtures on home soil last campaign and will fancy their chances of taking something from the showdown. The Sardinians have improved their line-up and there is a feel-good factor surrounding the club. A pulsating 2-2 result is 14/1.
