Cagliari vs. Inter Predictions and Preview
Hosts Cagliari realistically need five victories from their final 13 fixtures to retain their top flight status. The Sardinians will look to Leonardo Pavoletti to make a nuisance of himself against Inter and the in-form striker will be a threat. The former Napoli man has 10 goal involvements to his name and is available at 7/5 in the anytime market. Cagliari are 17/4 to claim all three points and 12/5 to pick up a point.
It was another miserable 90 minutes for Inter in their last league match as they firstly went behind after just 20 seconds, to then squander a 3-1 lead against opponents Fiorentina.
The Nerazzurri appeared on course for all three points in Florence until controversy ensued in the seventh minute of stoppage time. Danilo D’Ambrosio was adjudged to have handled in the box, though on closer inspection the ball appeared to hit the defender in the chest but the decision was settled by VAR, much to Spalletti’s fury.
Inter were again without the services of Mauro Icardi, with Martinez deputising and the Argentine is likely to retain his place as Icardi continues to make himself unavailable for selection. The former skipper may have a relatively modest 13 goals in all competitions, but is the standout scorer in the Nerazzurri squad and a real loss. Martinez is the 9/2 favourite to open proceedings and 8/1 to net two or more.
Ivan Perisic is also worth consideration. The Croatian, who pushed for a winter move to Arsenal, has settled down and come to the fore in the absence of Icardi. Perisic is 6/1 to strike first and add to his haul of five efforts for the campaign while the visitors can be found at 3/4 to secure a much needed triumph.
One to watch for Cagliari: Nicolò Barella is the crown jewel for the Rossoblu and is unlikely to be plying his trade at Sardegna Arena in August. The Italy youngster is 8/1 to score anytime.
One to watch for Inter: Radja Nainggolan has yet to justify his hefty summer transfer fee but has the ability to turn things around. The Belgian is 13/2 in the final scorer betting.
Long shot: Inter have flattered to deceive for the bulk of the season as the pressure begins to mount in the race for a top four spot. Nevertheless, even without Icardi, the Nerazzurri should have too much for Cagliari and a confidence boosting 3-0n triumph can be found at 16/1.
