Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are back in action this weekend, as Neil Lennon’s side welcome the Dons to Celtic Park. Both sides have been mired in controversy in the build-up to the game, even putting the entire league schedule at risk, so there’ll be plenty of eyes on Glasgow on Saturday afternoon.

Celtic v Aberdeen Predictions and Preview

The Scottish government warned they could put a stop to football’s return in the country, following serious breaches of coronavirus protocols by Celtic player Boli Bolingoli and a number of Aberdeen players. These are strange times we’re living in, but will normal service resume here in terms of Celtic’s domination over the Dons, and indeed the rest of the Premiership?

The Bhoys are unbeaten in their last eight games against Aberdeen, winning seven of those, including each of the last five. Celtic have scored 14 goals in those last five matches at an average of 2.8 per game, conceding only two at the other end.

The Hoops were awarded their ninth straight league title when last season was cancelled in March, and the champions began their quest for a 10th successive triumph with a resounding 5-1 victory over Hamilton Academical. They followed that up with a 1-1 draw at Kilmarnock though, ahead of another away day at St Mirren on Wednesday.

Aberdeen, meanwhile, lost 1-0 at home to Rangers in their opening fixture of the season, before their trip to St Johnstone last weekend was called off due to two players testing positive for Covid-10 and another six being forced into quarantine. All the result of visiting a bar, the Dons at least had a chance to get that controversy out of their system with a midweek game against Hamilton.

There’s no doubt who the favourites for the win here are, with Celtic utterly dominant over the Reds in recent games. Indeed, the Hoops were a full 35 points ahead of Aberdeen when last season was called off after just 30 games, clearly showing their superiority over Saturday’s visitors. Celtic to win and over 2.5 goals looks like being a promising bet in this week’s selections with William Hill

One to watch for Celtic: Twenty-two-year-old French forward Odsonne Edouard helped himself to a hat-trick in Celtic’s first game of the season, after netting 25 times in 27 league appearances last season. He bagged the opener against Hamilton the other week and is worth a look to do the same again here.

One to watch for Aberdeen: Sam Cosgrove top scored for Aberdeen last season, netting 23 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions. He’s definitely one to watch if you fancy Aberdeen to take a surprise lead at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon.

Long shot: The last five meetings between these clubs have seen Celtic win by an aggregate score of 14-2, which averages out at 2.8 goals for the Hoops and 0.4 for Aberdeen. Two of those matches were 3-0 Celtic victories, and the same result here could be worth a punt. You’ll get much better odds if you add in Edouard as the first goalscorer too.
