Chievo v Juventus Predictions and Preview
Hosts Chievo face the daunting task of stopping a buoyant Juventus side in the opening round of Serie A fixtures. The Flying Donkeys struggled for goals last year and will be hoping new addition Filip Dordevic can ease the burden on forwards Mariusz Stepinski and Sergio Pellissier. The ex-Lazio man is 15/1 to give his new team-mates a shock lead while the home side are a distant 15/1 to secure a memorable victory.
It was another dominant showing in the transfer market for the Bianconeri as Max Allegri welcomed Emre Can, Joao Cancelo and Mattia Perin to an already unstoppable squad. Leonardo Bonucci also made his return to the club after all but admitting his move to Milan was in haste. The quartet will all play significant roles as Juventus target a clean sweep both domestically and on the continent and the feeling is this could be the Bianconeri’s year in Europe.
Italy’s most successful club pulled off the signing of the summer when they announced Cristiano Ronaldo’s shock arrival in July. The Portuguese superstar left Spain after nine trophy laden years in the capital and will be tasked with leading Juventus to Champions League glory this term. First and foremost, the Madeira native will be focused on his competitive debut in Verona and at 2/1, is the overwhelming favourite to open proceedings and get a customary goal. Ronaldo is 7/1 to net a hat-trick and will fancy his chances against an ordinary Chievo team. Juventus are 2/9 to chalk up maximum points in their first game of the new season.
One to watch for Chievo: Valter Birsa has enjoyed a good career in Italy and is the Gialloblu’s main creative outlet. The ex-Milan midfielder is 13/2 to strike anytime during the clash.
One to watch for Juventus: Paulo Dybala will start in the playmaker role behind Ronaldo and will be eager to put his World Cup axing behind him. The Argentine is 4/1 to register first.
Long shot: Allegri is expected to setup in a 4-2-3-1 formation that involves as many attack minded players as possible. Full-backs Cancelo and Alex Sandro will spend the majority of the contest in the opponents’ half and it’s likely to be a long 90 minutes for the Chievo backline. With Ronaldo, Dybala, Douglas Costa and Pjanic also to contend with, a 5-0 Juventus win may be worth a flutter. This is 25/1.
