Chievo v Inter Milan Predictions and Preview
Inter go in search of their third straight win against Chievo at the weekend, as Luciano Spalletti’s side look to secure Champions League football for next season. The hosts meanwhile are hovering just above the relegation zone, and a victory against their more illustrious opponents would be massive.
I Gialloblu are without a win in three going into this game, with that run including two draws at home against Torino and relegation rivals Sassuolo. Rolando Maran’s side haven’t been able to put together a decent run all season, only winning back-to-back games once, which was at the start of October.
Chievo start this game at 13/2 in the betting, and there could be some value in that considering their recent performances at home against Inter. I Mussi Volanti have won two of the last four meetings between the sides at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi, and their visitors’ own form has been patchy of late.
Inter are still clear favourites for the three points though, with odds of 6/10. However, Spalletti’s team aren’t good travellers, winning just one of their last 10 games away from the San Siro. That one victory was a 5-0 demolition of Sampdoria though, while I Nerazzurri put four past Cagliari in midweek.
The visitors will be without Roberto Gagliardini for the trip east to Verona, after the midfielder went off against Cagliari on Tuesday with a thigh injury. For the home team, head coach Maran’s has a fully fit squad to choose from, with defender Mattia Bani returning from a suspension after his sending off last weekend.
A draw would be the third in a row for Chievo at home, and the third in four on the road for Inter. With that in mind, the stalemate at 10/3 could be a good option on your betslip for this game. With I Nerazzurri failing to score in their last three away, and the home team held to a goalless draw last time out, a 0-0 scoreline looks quite appealing at 10/1, while 1-1 is at 7/1.
One to watch for Chievo: Valter Birsa scored both goals in I Gialloblu’s 2-0 victory at home to Inter last year. He only has two Serie A goals to his name this season, and he’s 16/1 to score first or 50/1 to bag another unlikely brace.
One to watch for Inter: Mauro Icardi has had no such problems finding the net this season with 25 Serie A goals to his name. He’s the 12/5 favourite to open the scoring, and 10/13 to bag anytime.
Long shot: After scoring a hat-trick against Chievo earlier in the campaign, Ivan Perisic is 66/1 to hit another treble in the return. Icardi is just 11/1 for the same bet, showing how strong his form is at present.
