It’s another re-run of the 2018 World Cup final in this year’s Nations League, as Croatia host France at the Maksimir Stadium on Wednesday night. This clash in Zagreb could go a long way towards deciding how Group A3 pans out.

Last time: France replicated the exact result from the final of Russia 2018 when the teams met in Paris last month, beating Croatia 4-2 thanks to goals from Antoine Griezmann, Dayo Upamecano and Olivier Giroud, as well as a Dominik Livakovic own goal.

Croatia v France Predictions and Preview

Croatia have endured a miserable time at the hands of France over the last couple of years, with Les Bleus looking to seal a hat-trick of victories over the Vatreni this week. The home team are desperate for a win here, following a poor start to their Nations League campaign.

Zlatko Dalic’s side lost their first two matches against Portugal and France, conceding four goals in each of those games. The Blazers warmed up for this latest double-header with Sweden and France by beating Switzerland 2-1 in a friendly, and will have home advantage for their two latest competitive fixtures after last month’s were both on the road.

Whether that makes any difference against this French side remains to be seen. Didier Deschamps has a squad overflowing with attacking talent, clearly shown in their 7-1 demolition of Ukraine on Wednesday. Their opponents may have suffered from eight coronavirus-related withdrawals, but France fielded a much-changed team themselves.

Indeed, Kylian Mbappe, Griezmann and Paul Pogba all came on as second-half substitutes, while Bayern Munich’s Champions League final hero, Kingsley Coman, didn’t even feature at all. After beginning their Nations League campaign with a 1-0 victory in Sweden before their 4-2 win against Croatia, France are in form and in the mood.

Considering Croatia’s struggles at the back, and the fact that they’ve never beaten France in seven attempts, losing five, it’s tough to see the Kockasti picking up the win here. The visitors are the favourites in your Croatia v France predictions, while even the draw would constitute a surprise in this game.

One to watch for Croatia: Captain Luka Modric is expected to win his 130th cap on Wednesday night, and the Real Madrid midfielder will look for a big performance to prove he can still mix it with the very best.

One to watch for France: It’s hard to believe Kylian Mbappe is still only 21, but the generational talent is already bearing down on the 40-cap and 20-goal mark for his country. He’s always in the hunt for the first goal.

Long shot: It would be incredible if France were to beat Croatia 4-2 for the third time in a row. With the players Les Bleus have and their hosts’ issues at the back, it’s certainly not impossible though.
