Crotone and Milan club crests ahead of their Serie A fixture on September 27

Milan are looking to maintain their 100% start to the new season as they travel to the Stadio Ezio Scida to play newly-promoted Crotone on Sunday. The Pythagoreans made an inauspicious return to the top flight last weekend, and are aiming for real improvement in their first game back on home soil.

Crotone v Milan Predictions and Preview

Milan are in danger of falling further behind the big boys this season, which is a crucial campaign for the Rossoneri. They’re back in the Europa League, but they need to give a better account of themselves and get closer to perennial champions Juventus. That’s going to be tough, but they have a great chance to pick up another win against Crotone this weekend.

The Pythagoreans lost 4-1 at Genoa in their opening game of the new season, having finished distant runners-up to Benevento in Serie B last season. Former Milan player Giovanni Stroppa has a tough job on his hands to keep Crotone up this term, and the hosts don’t look likely for a win this weekend at 7/1 in the latest odds for the game.

Milan, meanwhile, are available at 23/50, after they opened their Serie A campaign with a 2-0 victory over Bologna on Monday night, courtesy of a Zlatan Ibrahimovic double. The evergreen Swede was also on target in the Rossoneri’s 2-0 Europa League victory over Shamrock Rovers last week, and is looking sharp despite his 39th birthday looming large at the start of October.

Loan signing Sandro Tonali was a late substitute in both of those matches, and the highly-rated midfielder will hope for his full Milan debut this weekend. Alessio Romagnoli, Andrea Conti, Mateo Musacchio and Rafael Leao are all expected to miss out through injury though, which is a contrast to Crotone’s clean bill of health coming into the game.

Milan coach Stefano Pioli must also juggle Thursday’s Europa League tie against Norwegian outfit Glimt, but there’s no doubt the Rossoneri are the clear favourites to pick up the win in this one. Even a draw would constitute a real surprise given have won four of the five meetings between the sides since 2015, with a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Ezio Scida the sole exception to that rule. The stalemate here though is priced at 4/1 with William Hill

One to watch for Crotone: Martinican forward Emmanuel Riviere has been brought into the club to fire the goals that will lead the Rossoblu to safety. He got on the scoresheet on his debut last weekend, and is 10/1 to follow that up with the opening goal on Sunday.

One to watch for Milan: Zlatan Ibrahimovic is far from shrinking with age, and he’s looking to add to his legend by spearheading a Milan title challenge this season. The mercurial striker is the 9/4 favourite to break the deadlock in this game, which would be the third time in a row he’s done so this season.

Long shot: Milan beat Crotone 3-0 the last time these teams met at this ground, which was just over three years ago. The Rossoneri have won their first two matches of the new campaign 2-0, but are 21/2 to go one better by repeating that 3-0 success. If you add Ibrahimovic as the first scorer, those odds rise to 32/1
