Dynamo Kiev v Juventus Predictions and Preview

Despite bitter rivals Shakhtar Donetsk’s recent dominance, Dynamo Kiev are still the most successful team in Ukraine. The capital side have 15 championships to their name and currently lead the Premier League standings.

The hosts will be led by Mircea Lucescu who took his place in the dugout at the end of July. The well-travelled Romanian led Shakhtar to eight titles and his appointment was met with fury by the natives.

The veteran has started brightly, winning seven of his first nine matches in charge but faces his sternest test yet as Dynamo manager. The 75-year-old will task Benjamin Verbič with unsettling the Juventus backline and the Slovenian is 24/5 to net anytime. Former Middlesbrough winger Carlos de Pena is 23/4 in the same market and already has two strikes to his name this term. Kiev are 4/1 to emerge triumphant on Matchday 1 and the draw is 5/2.

Visitors Juventus will have to shuffle the pack after Ronaldo and Weston McKennie contracted COVID-19. The absence of the Bianconeri talisman will be an opportunity for the likes of Alvaro Morata, Federico Chiesa, Paulo Dybala and Dejan Kulusevski to prove their worth to Andrea Pirlo ahead of a gruelling season both domestically and on the continent.

The coaching novice is unlikely to start all four of his forwards, though Morata will lead the attack. The Spaniard returned to Turin late in the summer transfer window and reserved his best performances for the Bianconeri in Europe.

The ex-Real Madrid ace is 21/5 to open proceedings, while Dybala is available at 5/1. The Argentine may only be in his mid-twenties but is part of the leadership group at the club and must repay the great faith shown in him by his old team-mate and now boss. Juventus are 17/20 to have a successful night.

One to watch for Dynamo Kiev: Viktor Tsyhankov hit 17 goals last year, and the feat was all the more impressive given he played largely as a midfielder. The one-time Tottenham Hotspur target also got the winner in the Nations League contest with Spain and is 12/1 to break the deadlock.

One to watch for Juventus: Chiesa has been brought in to play down the right flank and has all the tools to reach the next level and flourish. The former Fiorentina hero is 9/5 to notch anytime.

Long shot: Dynamo will fancy their chances with Ronaldo on the sidelines and there is no guarantee Juventus will find a solution to their short-term woes. Historically, Lucescu’s teams are well drilled, solid defensively and if frustration creeps in, a shock could be on the cards. A 1-0 success for Kiev, throwing the group wide open in the process, is 12/1.
