Title hopefuls Borussia Dortmund return from the Bundesliga winter break with a trip to sixth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday evening. Die Schwarzgelben are nine points behind table-topping Bayern Munich, and aiming to regain some ground as the league leaders deal with a Covid-19 outbreak.

Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Dortmund Predictions and Preview
Eintracht Frankfurt have failed to beat Borussia Dortmund in any of their last five home games against Die Schwarzgelben in league and cup. The last four of those fixtures have all been draws in the Bundesliga though, while Die Adler were 2-1 winners at the Westfalenstadion last season.
However, that’s Frankfurt’s only victory in their last 11 games against Dortmund, with Die Borussen winning seven of those encounters. Marco Rose’s side know that anything other than a victory this weekend would be another hammer blow to their hopes of ending Bayern Munich’s long reign at the summit of German football.
The Bavarians have a commanding lead at the top of the Bundesliga table, as they go in search of their 10th straight Meisterschale. Bayern need to nip their Covid outbreak in the bud though, and Dortmund will hope to peg them back before they do. Die Schwarzgelben suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat at Hertha Berlin in their final game of 2021, and they need to start the new year with a bang.
The visitors are the even money favourites to do so with a victory in this Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Dortmund preview. Die Adler are priced at 45/17 for their first home win against Dortmund since November 2016, while a fifth successive draw between the sides at the Waldstadion is available at 3/1.
That would probably suit the hosts more than the visitors, given Dortmund’s title hopes are already hanging by a thread. Frankfurt will still be in the race for the top four with two dropped points on Saturday, although they have real motivation in that winning this game will see them only four points behind their opponents this weekend.
There’s hope for Die Adler too in that Dortmund look severely compromised by their injury list at present. The likes of Marco Reus, Mats Hummels, Youssoufa Moukoko and Giovanni Reyna are all doubts for this game, with Frankfurt set to be without Aymen Barkok, Christopher Lenz and Jens Petter Hauge.
One to watch for Eintracht Frankfurt: Danish prospect Jesper Lindstrom is having a strong season for Die Adler. He is available at 11/1 to break the deadlock in these Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Dortmund predictions.
One to watch for Borussia Dortmund: Erling Haaland is the 11/4 favourite to score first on Saturday. The Norway international’s future always seems to be the subject of intense speculation, but the 21-year-old continues to deliver on the pitch with 19 goals in 15 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
Long shot: Dortmund have scored 22 goals in their last six Bundesliga victories over Frankfurt, at an average of 3.7 per game, conceding eight at the other end. A 4-1 away win is 30/1 in these Frankfurt v Dortmund tips, rising to 97/1 with Haaland scoring first.
