Empoli v Roma Predictions and Preview
Last year’s Serie B winners Empoli started promisingly, beating Cagliari 2-0 in their first match back in the big time. The Azzurri have since narrowly lost to Lazio and held Milan for a credible point but have a challenging run of games coming up that could determine the outlook of their season.
The hosts have only scored five goals from their first seven clashes with Francesco Caputo accounting for three efforts. The Empoli vice-captain is an idol in the terraces, bagging a hugely impressive 27 strikes from 40 Serie B appearances and his goals were influential in the Azzurri sauntering to the title. Caputo has looked comfortable with the step up and is Empoli’s biggest threat. The striker is 6/1 to net first while Aurelio Andreazzoli’s men are 4/1 to chalk up all three points.
|Kluivert to score last||6/1||Offer|
|Goals in both halves||7/10||Offer|
|Roma to win 3-0||12/1||Offer|
Visitors Roma have recovered from a difficult spell to ease the pressure on boss Eusebio Di Francesco. The former Sassuolo tactician was struggling with his tried and tested 4-3-3 line-up but has overseen a change in fortune after moving to a 4-2-3-1 formation. Dzeko will lead the line for the Lupi and looks back to his best after hitting a hat-trick against Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday night.
Dzeko is the 10/3 favourite to open proceedings in Tuscany while Turkish starlet Cengiz Under, another score in midweek, is 11/2 in the same market. Roma are 4/6 to record a fourth league triumph of the campaign.
One to watch for Empoli: Samuel Mráz is off the mark for the year and will partner Caputo upfront. The young Slovakian forward has impressed and is 3/1 to score anytime.
One to watch for Roma: Justin Kluivert got his first goal for the club in the 5-0 rout against the Czech champions and is a shrewd option at 12/2 in the last scorer betting.
Long shot: Roma have already come unstuck away at Bologna and against Chievo and must prove they can dispatch plucky opposition who set out to frustrate. The two duels yielded a solitary point but if the Lupi are able to break the deadlock early on, Empoli will find themselves exposed in search of an equaliser. An away 4-0 win is 25/1.
