Two teams striving for very different goals collide at Goodison Park on Saturday, as Everton play host to Burnley in the Premier League. The Clarets have been in the hunt for Europe in previous seasons, but they’re down at the wrong end of the table at present as the Toffees chase a spot in next season’s Europa League, or perhaps better.
Where and when: Goodison Park – 13 March, kick-off 17:30
Where you can see Everton vs. Burnley: Sky Sports
Last time: Robbie Brady gave Burnley the lead inside the opening few minutes when the teams clashed at Turf Moor in early December, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised for Everton in the third minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half. Neither side could seal the victory as the match ended 1-1.
Everton v Burnley Predictions and Preview
The draw Everton and Burnley shared a few months ago was the first stalemate between these two teams in their last 14 meetings. The fixture that kicked off that run was some 45 years ago back in 1976, although the subsequent 13 have all been played since 2009.
Nine of those games have ended in home wins, while Everton have celebrated seven wins in the fixture and Burnley five. The Toffees head into this game just four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, with a game in hand over Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Of course, Everton lost 2-0 to Chelsea on Monday, in what was something of a missed opportunity for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. The Toffees were not at the same level as their hosts in that game, but there’s still plenty of optimism they can finish the season strongly and qualify for the Europa League at least.

Everton to win to nil
Everton to win 1-0
Calvert-Lewin to score first
Burnley may consider that particular competition something of a poisoned chalice after their experience of a couple of years ago. However, Everton need European football if they’re to progress to the next level under Ancelotti.
The Toffees have won to nil in their last two home games against the Clarets, and the hosts are the 11/12 favourites for the victory in these Everton v Burnley tips. The visitors are priced at 4/1 in the latest odds for this game, with the draw available at 5/2 with William Hill.
Given their current predicament and the fact they’re visiting a top-four chasing side, Burnley would probably be happy with a point prior to kick-off. Sean Dyche’s side find themselves just four points clear of the relegation zone at present, but 18th-placed Fulham are in form and full of confidence after a string of impressive performances.
Burnley may have only lost one of their last seven Premier League fixtures, with even that away to another Champions League hopeful in Tottenham. Yet the Clarets have won just one of their last nine, and they need a couple of big results to take the mounting pressure off.
The visitors won’t be able to call on Ashley Barnes in this game as the striker’s injury troubles continue, while Jack Cork and Charlie Taylor are further doubts for Burnley. Everton, meanwhile, are set to be without Yerry Mina, Fabian Delph and Abdoulaye Doucoure, but Seamus Coleman and James Rodriguez could be fit to play.
One to watch for Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form has dipped over winter, and the Toffees striker has failed to score in any of his last four games. He remains a threat though, and is the 14/5 favourite to open the scoring on Saturday with his 14th Premier League goal of the season.
One to watch for Burnley: Chris Wood’s bizarre goal against Arsenal was enough to earn his team a point at the weekend. That was only the New Zealand international’s fifth goal of the season, but he is 13/2 to add to his tally with the opener in these Everton v Burnley predictions.
Long shot: It was only a couple of years ago that Everton thrashed Burnley 5-1 at Turf Moor. How Ancelotti would love his team to get back in the win column with the same result this weekend, which is priced at 140/1. With Calvert-Lewin scoring first, those odds rise to 585/1.
