PSV Eindhoven have all but secured their place in the Champions League play-off after a 3-0 victory in the first leg against FC Midtjylland. The Dutch vice-champions travel to Denmark for the return leg and Roger Schmidt might rest some of his key players, as PSV take on Ajax for the Dutch Super Cup on Sunday.

FC Midtjylland vs. PSV Eindhoven Predictions and Preview
PSV absolutely dominated FC Midtjylland and could’ve easily scored five or six against the Danes, but Roger Schmidt was more than pleased with his side’s 3-0 victory in front of the ecstatic home crowd.
The Red and Whites scored all of their goals within 13 minutes, as Noni Madueke, Mario Gotze and Cody Gakpo scored wonderful goals in the first half. PSV visibly slowed the tempo after the break, but even then the hosts created plenty of chances against a confused Midtjylland team.
The victory confirmed PSV fantastic form at the start of the season, as the Dutch giants had trashed Galatasaray by 7-2 over two legs prior to reaching the third-qualifying round.
However, the focus will be switched prior the second leg as PSV face Ajax for the Dutch Super Cup on Sunday, so Schmidt will go all in and try to lift the first trophy of the season. The tactician fielded more or less the same team for all official games so far, but will make some rotations for the second leg.

Over 2.5 goals
Both Teams to Score
Midtjylland to win 2-1
FC Midtjylland will count on a potential PSV complacency in the return leg, but considering the heavy defeat from the first game, the Danes would need more than a miracle to go through. The Danes failed to cope with the pace, trickery and skill of PSV’s attackers a week ago, but they should do better at home and have the means to trouble the Dutch giants.
The Danes reached this stage of the Champions League qualifiers after defeating Celtic 2-1 at home, thanks to a fantastic come-back, but they’ll need much more then that against PSV.
A Midtjylland victory is priced at 9/4, while a draw can be backed up at 5/2 and seems like a probable option. Despite their comfortable lead from the first leg, PSV remain the better side and remain favorites.
One to watch for FC Midtjylland: 23-year-old midfielder Evander has been instrumental for the Danish side since the start of the year. The Brazilian scored two screamers since the start of the season and is capable of producing the magic that Midtjylland need, so watch out for him in the first scorer market.
One to watch for PSV: Mario Gotze’s move to PSV has proven to be the best move for both parties. After netting seven goals in 22 appearances last term, the 29-year-old German has already scored three times in the Champions League qualifiers, so he might be an interesting option to break the deadlock against the Danes.
Long shot: PSV have won all of their three Champions League qualifiers since their campaign kicked off. The Dutch vice-champions have had a week between each of those games, but they face Ajax three days before their second leg against Midtjylland. PSV are likely to rest some key figures after their 3-0 win the first game, so it’s worth taking a gamble and placing a bet on a 2-1 victory for FC Midtjylland at 10/1.
