Fiorentina vs. Inter Milan Tips, Preview and Predictions

Fiorentina and Inter club crests

Serie A champions Inter continue their title defence when they visit Fiorentina on Tuesday in Week 5. The Nerazzurri drew 2-2 away to Sampdoria on their last trip, so Simone Inzaghi’s men will be eager to get back on track away from home. However, this will not be an easy task against La Viola that is yet to lose at Artemio Franchi and that recently defeated Atalanta in Bergamo.

Fiorentina v Inter Milan Predictions and Preview

The Nerazzurri suffered their first defeat of the season midweek, when they were beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid at home in the Champions League, despite dominating for the majority of the game. However, Simone Inzaghi’s men are yet to suffer a defeat in Serie A, so they’ll be desperate to get back on winning ways when they visit Fiorentina on Tuesday.

Inter face Bologna only a three days after their defeat to Real, so Inzaghi might be forced to rest some of his players, as the schedule is getting tighter. 35-year-old Edin Dzeko is on top of the list as the Big Bosnian started in all of Inter’s games some, so Joaquin Correa might get a chance in the starting XI alongside his compatriot Lautaro Martinez.

Correa had a dream debut, coming off the bench in Week 2 to score twice as Inter beat Hellas Verona 3-1. Another new signing could also get his first start as Denzel Dumfries could step in for Matteo Darmian, who is another veteran that might be rested. Stefano Sensi, who partnered Edin Dzeko in Lautaro’s absence for the Serie A opener against Genoa is still recovering from injury, so he is a big doubt for the trip to Tuscany.

Inter are undefeated in their last 10 games against Fiorentina in all competitions and the Nerazzurri have averaged two scored goals per game during that stretch. La Beneamata’s last defeat at Stadio Artemio Franchi dates back from 2017 when a Mauro Icardi hattrick was not enough to save them, as the hosts won 4-3 in a thrilling game.

Ivan Perisic is the player with most goals against Fiorentina, as the Croatian winger has four goals against La Viola. He is followed by Edin Dzeko, who has netted three strikes, while Nicolo Barella also has two goals in his last five outings against the Tuscan outfit.

Fiorentina, meanwhile, will count that Inter’s unconvincing form on the road will continue, with the Nerazzurri winning just two of their last six games away from home. La Viola played two games at Artemio Franchi this term as Vincenzo Italiano’s men comfortably dispatched Cosenza 4-0 in the first round of the Coppa Italia, before beating Torino 2-1.

Dusan Vlahovic scored a combined of three goals in those games and already has five strikes in all competitions since the start of the season. The Serbian might be just 21, but he has already scored against Inter in his career as he netted a late equalizer for the 1-1 draw in Florence in 2019.

After years of struggling, it finally seems that Fiorentina have the potential to do better this term. Vincenzo Italiano’s arrival has brought conviction and style to La Viola’s play and this was evident in the 2-1 victory away to Atalanta. Italiano will have his full squad to choose from, so expect him to stick with his attacking trident of Dusan Vlahovic, Jose Callejon and Nico Gonzalez.

Fiorentina’s only defeat this term was a 3-1 loss away to Roma in their Serie A opener, but the team has improved gradually since. The hosts will count on the passionate support from their fans as well as Inter’s shaky form on the road and tight schedule.

The game promises to be a tight one with a victory for the hosts being available at 11/4. The draw can’t be written of at 13/5, while Inter remain 10/11 favourites to get all the three points at the Artemio Franchi on Tuesday.

One to watch for Fiorentina: Dusan Vlahovic had his breakthrough campaign with Fiorentina last term, when the 21-year-old forward scored 21 goals in Serie A. It seems that Vlahovic is on track to even improve on those numbers this term, as he already netted three times in as many games since the start of the season. The Serbian will be the main threat for Samir Handanovic’s goal and at 9/2 is one of the main favourites to break the deadlock on Tuesday.

One to watch for Inter Milan: Lautaro Martinez scored two goals in as many appearances in Serie A this term and the Argentinian will be looking to build on that against La Viola. Lukaku’s departure means that Lautaro has extra responsibilities now and the Argentinian will be eager to prove his worth. Martinez is also 9/2 to score the opener against Fiorentina, so watch out for him in the first scorer market.

Long shot: Two of the last five games between Fiorentina and Inter ended with 2-1 wins for the Nerazzurri. A repeat of thatresult can be backed at 8/1, while Nicolo Barella has two goals against La Viola during that stretch, so you can pair this with the Italian to score at anytime, which raises the odds to 26/1.
