Fiorentina v Milan Predictions and Preview
Fiorentina moved six points clear of the bottom three after thrashing Sampdoria 5-1. The scoreline suggests one team comfortably outplayed the other but the Viola can consider themselves a tad fortunate as Claudio Ranieri’s men went three down via two penalties and an own-goal.
Doria never recovered from the deficit as Federico Chiesa and partner Dusan Vlahovic both his braces. To his credit, Chiesa has performed admirably in an unfamiliar central role and is an attractive 7/1 to open the scoring. Vlahovic is 13/2 in the same market and is expected to edge out former Rossoneri ace Patrick Cutrone. Fiorentina are 9/5 to be victorious and 9/4 to earn a draw.
Visitors Milan recovered at the first opportunity following their Derby capitulation. The travelling party toppled Torino in midweek courtesy of an Ante Rebic strike and the attacker has been in blistering form this calendar year. The Croatian has five goals from his last six appearances and is 15/8 to net anytime.
Talisman and returning hero Zlatan Ibrahimovic was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet against the Granata. Ibrahimovic led the line as a sole forward, flanked by Rebic, Samu Castillejo and Lucas Paqueta who had been brought in from the cold.
The Brazilian was close to leaving the Milan giants in the winter but looked bright on a rare start. Ibrahimovic is 4/1 favourite to register first while Paqueta is available at 12/1. The Rossoneri are 6/4 to clinch all three points in a triumph that could lift them in to the European places if results elsewhere go their way.
One to watch for Fiorentina: Cutrone was pushed out of boyhood club Milan last summer but returned to Italy after just six months. The former Wolverhampton Wanderers hitman is 13/2 to score last and will be eager to remind his old side of his ability.
One to watch for Milan: Leao will feature after the break and his searing pace will be an asset. The Portuguese youngster is 7/1 to notch the last effort of the duel.
Long shot: Fiorentina have only kept two clean sheets since mid-October while Milan have scored in all but one of their league fixtures in 2020. The Viola played Stefano Pioli’s men off the park in the reverse fixture but the tactician would settle for a draw against his old club. A 2-2 outcome is 13/1.
