World champions France complete their preparations for Euro 2020 with this friendly fixture against Bulgaria at the Stade de France on Tuesday. Les Bleus are expected to swat aside their visitors here, with the Bulgarians failing to even qualify for this summer’s European Championship.

Last time: These countries were paired together in qualifying for the last World Cup in Russia. France thumped Bulgaria 4-1 at home before a 1-0 triumph in Sofia in the return.

France v Bulgaria Predictions and Preview

Those meetings between the countries a few years back was the first time France and Bulgaria had crossed paths since the group stages of Euro 96. The likes of Laurent Blanc and Hristo Stoichkov were on target as France won 3-1 to knock Bulgaria out of the Euros some 25 years ago, but the gap between the two teams could be even wider here.

Bulgaria don’t currently have any players anything close to the quality of their legendary striker, Stoichkov. Indeed, Yasen Petrov’s squad is also very low on experience, while the Lions endured a poor qualification campaign for this summer’s Euros.

Bulgaria only managed to win one of their eight qualifying fixtures, and even that was in their last match against a Czech Republic side who’d already qualified for the finals. The Lions only scored six goals in their eight games, conceding 17 at the other end, with 10 of those coming in their two clashes with England.

France are a step up from the Three Lions, and if Les Bleus are in the mood on Tuesday, this could easily turn into a massacre. The world champions beat 10-man Wales 3-0 in their first warm-up fixture on Wednesday, enjoying 75% possession and mustering up 23 attempts on goal. The score could be much higher here.

Bulgaria will stand a better chance of restricting their hosts to fewer shots if they can keep 11 men on the pitch. Yet even if they do, the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele will fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet once again, as they did against the Welsh.

The question coming into these France v Bulgaria predictions is surely how many goals the home team will win by, rather than if the visitors can manage a result. Les Bleus are the 1/9 favourites for the victory, while even the draw appears highly unlikely at 8/1. If you fancy Bulgaria to shock the world champions on the eve of the Euros, the away win is priced at 20/1

One to watch for France: Kylian Mbappe broke the deadlock against Wales in Les Bleus’ last game, and the Paris Saint-Germain forward is always in the mix when it comes to first goalscorer predictions. The golden boy of French football has only managed 17 goals in his first 43 international appearances, a ratio he’ll be looking to improve in the weeks ahead.

One to watch for Bulgaria: Young goalkeeper Daniel Naumov is competing with the more experienced Nikolay Mihaylov for Bulgaria’s No.1 shirt. Whoever takes their place between the sticks in this game is likely to have a busy night on their hands.

Long shot: If you’re searching for bets with big odds in these France v Bulgaria tips, a correct score prediction is probably the way to go. Les Bleus put four goals past Bulgaria the last time the countries met at the Stade de France, with a 4-0 home victory one to look out for. To enhance the odds on that further, try adding Mbappe as the first scorer.
