France v Sweden Predictions and Preview

Following their big games in this tournament at the weekend, these two countries will know exactly what’s required of them in this fixture. France are hoping to proceed to the finals, while Sweden will hope they still have a chance of remaining in the top tier of Nations League countries for the next running of this competition.

The chances of that are slim for the visitors though, with the Blagult losing all four of their opening Group A3 fixtures, prior to Saturday’s home game against World Cup finalists Croatia. It’s been a very tough section for Janne Andersson’s side, and the Swedes may indeed prefer an easier collection of games next time round.

France, on the other hand, are looking to build up some momentum ahead of their bid to become reigning world and European champions next summer. Didier Deschamps named a predominantly second string side in Wednesday’s shock friendly defeat at home to Finland, and his team should be at full strength here following Saturday’s crucial clash with Portugal.

That ought to mean starts for the likes of Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, N’Golo Kante, Raphael Varane and Kingsley Coman, after all of those players were either substitutes against Finland or sat out the game altogether. There’s incredible quality coursing through the French squad, particularly in the final third, and they are the clear favourites to pick up the win here.

The away team are the obvious underdogs in these France v Sweden predictions, while even a draw would represent an excellent result for them at the home of the world champions. After France’s victory in Stockholm in this competition in September, and with France looking for their third straight win against the Blagult on home soil, it appears unlikely though.

One to watch for France: Kylian Mbappe scored the only goal of the game when these countries met a couple of months ago, and the Paris Saint-Germain forward is well in the running to repeat the trick on Tuesday.

One to watch for Sweden: The performance of Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof will be crucial to Sweden’s chances of snatching a result. He usually shines for his country, but could he pop up with a surprise goal too?

Long shot: Sweden have only lost one of their last four competitive fixtures against France, winning twice. The Blagult scored exactly two goals in both of those victories, and with the most recent ending 2-1 to Sweden, the same result here could be worth a look as a long shot.
