After smashing RB Leipzig 4-1 in their opening game of the new Bundesliga season, Borussia Dortmund head to Hannover for their first away day. Hannover won this fixture last season, so it won’t be an easy game for Lucien Favre’s side.
Where and when: HDI-Arena – 31 August, kick-off 19:30
Where you can see Hannover vs. Dortmund: BT Sport, William Hill live streaming
Last time: Michy Batshuayi scored the only goal of the game for Dortmund when the teams met at the Westfalenstadion in March.
Hannover v Dortmund Predictions and Preview
Dortmund have a strong record against Hannover, winning nine of the last 12 meetings between the sides. However, Die Roten put in a superb performance at the HDI-Arena last season, knocking four goals past their visitors in a 4-2 victory.
Die Borussen can’t afford to make many mistakes at all if they’re going to have a chance of winning the Bundesliga this year. Bayern Munich look as strong as ever, but Der BVB will hope they stutter a little under new boss Niko Kovac.
Lucien Favre has a huge amount of work to do just to get anywhere near Bayern though, after finishing a monstrous 29 points behind the Bavarians last term. Dortmund qualified for the Champions League by the skin of their teeth, but the 4-1 thumping of top four rival Leipzig last weekend was an emphatic way to start the new campaign.
|Reus to score first||9/2||Offer|
|Dortmund to win and both teams to score||15/8||Offer|
The visitors are the favourites in the betting, priced at 57/100. Hannover are 15/4, after they got a decent enough point at Werder Bremen last weekend. It was somewhat disappointing for Andre Breitenreiter’s side not to get the win after taking the lead with only 15 minutes remaining, only for Theodor Gebre Selassie to equalise with five minutes left on the clock.
You can get odds of 15/4 on Hannover starting the season with back-to-back draws, while another 1-1 is priced at 17/2. However, goals are expected in this game. There’s been 34 goals in the last 10 meetings between the sides, while Hannover’s last five home games have seen over 2.5 goals.
Dortmund’s last three games have produced the same, so after the six goals in this fixture last term, an over 2.5 goals bet looks pretty safe at 4/7, while it’s 7/5 for over 3.5 goals. Add Dortmund to that selection as the winners and you can get 12/5.
One to watch for Hannover: Hendrik Weydandt broke the deadlock for Hannover in their opening game of the season in Bremen. He’s 21/2 to do the same against Dortmund on Friday night.
One to watch for Dortmund: Marco Reus finally got his goal against Leipzig in injury time at the weekend. The Germany international is 9/2 to kick off the scoring in this one.
Long shot: After last season’s 4-2 thriller, and Dortmund’s four goals in their first game of the season, you can get 40/1 on Die Borussen winning this one 4-2.
