Hibernian v Aberdeen Predictions and Preview

After an ill-fated spell at Sunderland, Ross has rebuilt his reputation in his homeland. The Hibs head coach has put together a good squad and was recently boosted by Martin Boyle’s show of commitment. The pacy winger was a target for Celtic and Rangers but has committed his future to the club until 2023. Boyle is 5/1 to open proceedings and Christian Doidge is 9/2 in the same betting.

Doidge netted on 18 occasions during his maiden season with the Edinburgh outfit and was desperately unlucky to miss out on Wales’ Nations League clashes with Finland and Bulgaria. Ryan Giggs admitted in March he was monitoring the Newport born ace and a call up to the senior setup should be on the cards in the near future. Hibs are 5/4 to take the spoils and a draw is 12/5.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is still without star forward Sam Cosgrove. The Beverley born hotshot was injured in a pre-season friendly in July, ironically against this weekend’s opponents, and is still at least a month away from a return to full training.

Only Alfredo Morelos scored more than Cosgrove during the 2018-19 term and the striker also registered double figures in his third year at the club. The attacker has been a revelation since moving from Carlisle United in 2018 and was subject of a £2m bid from Guingamp which was accepted by his current employers but the player subsequently turned the move down.

Scott Wright will lead the line with Marley Watkins in support as Cosgrove continues his recovery. The Dandies number 25 is already off the mark and got the winner at home to Livingston. Wright has deputised admirably and is 10/3 to net anytime. Watkins is 8/1 to break the deadlock and the Dandies are 21/10 to collect another victory.

One to watch for Hibernian: Ross has a welcome selection dilemma on his hands with Kevin Nisbet available for selection after overcoming injury. The Dunfermline Athletic recruit has already hit a hat-trick since his arrival and is 19/10 to notch anytime.

One to watch for Aberdeen: Niall McGinn is one of McInness’ trusted performers and is 7/2 to bag anytime. Only Cosgrove has scored more than the Ulsterman over the last 12 months.

Long shot: With the top two places set to be contested by champions Celtic and Rangers, there is a real opportunity to claim third, and, indeed European football for both Hibernian and Aberdeen. The two teams bought well in the summer and there is little to choose between them. An entertaining 3-3 outcome is 70/1.
