Inter vs. Atalanta Serie A Betting Tips and Preview

Inter vs. Atalanta, Serie A

This weekend brings a mouthwatering clash in Serie A as leaders Inter Milan host Atalanta at the San Siro on Saturday night. The hosts recorded an impressive win away at Napoli on Monday to retain their place at the summit, but the away team started the new year in the same explosive form that they ended 2019.

Inter v Atalanta Predictions and Preview

Fifth-placed Atalanta come into this weekend’s fixture on the back of a three-match unbeaten run against Inter. The visitors have also recorded back-to-back 5-0 victories either side of the winter break, moving them to within a point of the top four. The Nerazzurri, however, are in superb form too, and this could prove to be a sparkling game under the Milanese floodlights.

As if we needed any further proof, Inter’s 3-1 victory in Naples on Monday showed Antonio Conte’s side are ready to go the distance with Juventus this season. With Romelu Lukaku in fine form and Lautaro Martinez also amongst the goals, Inter smashed four past Genoa in their most recent home game, which came before the break.

The Nerazzurri also recorded a massive win in this fixture the season before last, with Mauro Icardi and Ever Banega both netting hat-tricks in a 7-1 thrashing of Atalanta in March 2017. The other Nerazzurri, however, have improved immeasurably since then, backing up last season’s third-placed finish with another tilt at the Champions League this term.

Atalanta hammered Parma 5-0 on Monday, meaning they’ve scored 10 goals in their last two games following the same impressive scoreline against Milan in their final game of December. Both of those games were on home soil though, and home advantage has counted for a lot in this fixture in recent seasons.

There hasn’t been an away win since Inter eased to a 4-1 victory at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia in February 2015, with five home wins and three draws coming since. Another home win would appear to be the most likely result here, and that’s priced at 21/20 in the betting. La Dea meanwhile are 11/4 for the win, with the draw available at 47/16

The visitors will at least have almost a complete squad of players to choose from, with on-loan Danish centre-back Simon Kjaer the only fitness concern for Gian Piero Gasperini. Inter are in the same boat though, with Danilo D’Ambrosio the only man looking likely to miss this game through injury. Kwadwo Asamoah is back in training following a knee injury and could return to action.

One to watch for Inter: Romelu Lukaku showed up on the big stage against Napoli on Monday, breaking the deadlock with a fine early opener before adding a second 20 minutes later. The Belgian striker is 7/2 to open the scoring for a second big game in a row.

One to watch for Atalanta: Josip Ilicic has hit braces in each of his last two games, and has eight goals in his last seven Serie A appearances. The Slovenian could be worth a look at 7/1 in the first goalscorer market for this fixture.

Long shot: There may have been two goalless draws in the last three meetings between these sides, but both teams are on fire in front of goal at the moment. Five of the last 14 games between the clubs have seen five or more goals, and while another 7-1 Inter victory looks unlikely at 375/1, a 3-2 home win could be enticing at 21/1
