Inter vs. Benevento Serie A Betting Tips and Preview

Basement club Benevento seek only their fourth Serie A victory of the season when they travel to Champions League chasers Inter on Saturday evening.

Le Streghe can take heart from their recent performances and will relish the opportunity of playing in one of Italy’s most famous stadiums. For Inter, it’s a chance to get back on track after miserable run of form which has seen the Nerazzurri win only once in their last 10 matches.

Where and when: Stadio Giuseppe Meazza – 24 February, kick-off 19:45

Last time: Marcelo Brozovic bagged himself a quickfire double before Marco D’Alessandro halved the deficit for the top-flight newcomers. Inter saw out the October contest 2-1, making it an impressive six wins from the first seven matches of the campaign.

Inter v Benevento Predictions and Preview

The visitors may be 11 points adrift of safety but there is still plenty of football to be played between now and May. This time last year Crotone were dead and buried, the overwhelming favourites for the drop, before taking maximum points from six of the last nine games. The great escape had been pulled off and this proved to be one of the feel-good stories of the footballing year.

Benevento are a completely different side since their debut success against Chievo late in December and will take the game to the hosts. Le Streghe made leaders Napoli work for their win and shocked capital club Roma with an early lead at Stadio Olimpico. The likes of Guilherme, Massimo Coda and Enrico Brignola all appear far more assured and, perhaps more importantly, ambitious on the ball and this can only bode well for the remainder of the season. Roberto De Zerbi’s fighters toppled Crotone 3-2 in their last fixture and will not make it easy for Luciano Spalletti’s men. The Campania based outfit are 11/1 to shock the Nerazzurri and keep their survival dream alive.

Home side Inter are stuttering and look a pale imitation of the team that took the division by storm in August. Spalletti’s squad are bereft of confidence and utterly predictable unless star man Mauro Icardi delivers his trademark strike. The comedy own goal from Andrea Ranocchia in the 2-0 loss away at Genoa just about summed up the Nerazzurri’s current plight and to make matters worse, neighbours Milan are building momentum. Despite this, the hosts are the 1/6 favourites, but the clash is likely to be closer than the odds suggest.

Latest Form

V

One to watch for Inter: Icardi is expected to miss out again with a knee injury with Eder deputising in his place. The diminutive forward is 4/1 to open the scoring and bag his third goal in four appearances.

One to watch for Benevento: On loan Cheick Diabate is pushing for a starting role after his decisive effort last weekend. The 29-year-old is 17/1 to repeat his exploits.

Long shot: Benevento have progressively improved as the season has worn on and couldn’t be facing Inter at a better time. The wounded giants have problems all over the field while Benevento look energised after their January incomings. A stunning 3-1 for Le Streghe is available at 125/1 and would be a result to treasure for De Zerbi and everyone connected to the club.
