Inter v Cagliari Predictions and Preview
The Nerazzurri are on a 10-match winning run and need a maximum of 16 points to seal a first Scudetto since 2010. Inter boss Antonio Conte will be thrilled and relieved in equal measures when the champions elect get over the line after witnessing his men crash out of the Champions League in disastrous fashion in the winter.
The pressure was mounting on the Lecce native who has been handsomely backed in the transfer market with first choice targets Romelu Lukaku, Achraf Hakimi, Stefano Sensi and Alexis Sanchez and all arriving in Milan. Modest recruits Christian Eriksen, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young have also played their part and the Inter board will only have to wait a matter of weeks before they see a return on their investment.

Lukaku and partner Lautaro Martinez have contributed an astonishing 41 efforts and 15 assists between them this term and the next challenge will be to dominate on the continent. The Nerazzurri are comfortably the best team in Serie A but there are few squads in the top five leagues that can boast the depth and talent at Conte’s disposal. Martinez is 7/2 to open proceedings and Manchester City target Lukaku is 12/5.
Hakimi has enjoyed a fine debut year in Italy after joining from Real Madrid. Eyebrows were raised when the Spanish champions allowed the flying wing-back to leave and he has unsurprisingly hit the ground running.
The Moroccan has 11 goal contributions to his name and is 3/1 to register anytime. Nicolo Barella and Eriksen can be found at 7/4 and 11/5, respectively and the Nerazzurri are 1/4 to emerge triumphant.
Cagliari’s immediate focus is retaining their top flight status, but the inquest is likely to begin shortly after the final fixture. The travelling party should not be involved in a scrap for 17th and have international pedigree at the front of the pitch all the way to the backline.
Joao Pedro has been the standout performer for the Sardinians and is 11/1 to break the deadlock. Leonardo Pavoletti is 10/1 to net anytime and Cagliari are 19/2 to claim a shock victory. A share of the spoils is 24/5.
One to watch for Inter: Ashley Young deputised for Ivan Perisic on Wednesday and is likely to get another start as his colleague recovers from injury. The former Manchester United captain is 4/1 to notch anytime.
One to watch for Cagliari: Giovanni Simeone has bagged double figures in three of his last four seasons and his team-mates desperately need him to get on the goal trail. The Argentine is 7/2 in the same market.
Long shot: Conte will treat Cagliari with the utmost respect and knows what Semplici’s group are capable of. The Sardinians are dangerous and exiled duo Diego Godin and Nainggolan will be desperate to remind Conte of their worth. An enjoyable 2-2 outcome is 25/1.
