Inter v Lecce Predictions and Preview
Conte is likely to go with his tried and tested 3-5-2 formation which will include debutants Diego Godin, Nicolo Barella and Stefano Sensi. Godin, the Atletico Madrid legend, may be 33-years-old but remains one of the elite defenders on the continent and the Nerazzurri now have a backline to rival champions Juventus.
The South American will be partnered by Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij while technically gifted duo Sensi and Barella will take their place in midfield.
Further forward, Lautaro Martinez is guaranteed to feature from the opening whistle but his strike partner is unknown. Mauro Icardi somewhat surprisingly remains at the club despite Conte’s public desire to move the attacker on and the former skipper will not come under consideration.
New recruit Romelu Lukaku should be included in the matchday squad but is a doubt to start after failing to play a single minute of pre-season with former team Manchester United. The Belgian has long been admired by Conte and the ex-national team boss has finally got his man after missing out on Lukaku’s signature at Chelsea.
The Belgian all-time top goalscorer will almost certainly get minutes after the break and is 8/11 to net anytime and 4/1 to hit two or more against the Serie A newbies. Inter are overwhelming favourites to chalk up three points, available at 2/9.
Visiting party Lecce will be reliant on target man Andrea La Mantia throughout the term and the Italian is 4/1 to strike anytime. The Giallorossi are 14/1 to pull of a shock win and 5/1 to earn a draw.
One to watch for Inter: Antonio Candreva was out of favour under Spalletti but has always been a favourite of Conte and will assume the role of right wing-back. The versatile midfielder is 13/2 to register first.
One to watch for Lecce: Captain Marco Mancosu hit 13 goals last year and is an attractive 18/1 to shock the hosts and break the deadlock.
Long shot: Inter had to be patient in securing their man, but in Conte, the Nerazzurri have one of the finest coaches in world football. The fiery Lecce native transformed a steady Chelsea squad in to runaway title winners and has a collection of players who can run Juventus all the way. A comfortable 4-0 triumph is 14/1.
