Inter v Roma Predictions and Preview

With their most recent win, Inter set a new all-time club record for their best ever start to a Serie A season. The Nerazzurri have recorded a mightily impressive 12 triumphs from the opening 14 rounds of action and, ominously, are getting better and better every week.

The Milan giants have won their last five league clashes, and central to their current success is the pairing of Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku. The strike partnership have a stunning 24 goals between them in all competitions, and Inter are certainly not missing Mauro Icardi.

Martinez, in particular, has shone. The Argentine has caught the eye of Barcelona, with Lionel Messi reportedly a big admirer of his compatriot, but his employers are keen to tie him down to a new, and much improved contract. The attacker is 9/2 to strike first and 6/1 to bag a brace.

Lukaku has settled in seamlessly to life in Italy and is the 4/1 favourite to open proceedings. The hosts are 17/20 to chalk up another successful 90 minutes and the draw is 13/5.

Elsewhere, travelling party Roma also deserve praise. The Lupi went somewhat under the radar and were not fancied for a European finish, but boss Paulo Fonseca has proved an inspired appointment.

The Portuguese had to contend with an enormous injury list, but is gradually getting key players back in to the first-team fold. The Lupi have four victories from the last five and can be found at 3/1 to inflict a second defeat on the home squad.

One to watch for Inter: Antonio Candreva was one of Conte’s most consistent performers at international level and the wing-back has not let his manager down on the club scene. Candreva is a threat from distance and is 17/2 to strike last.

One to watch for Roma: Henrikh Mkhitaryan returned from a spell on the sidelines to net the final goal in the 3-1 success against Verona. While the Armenian is not quite ready to start, he will get minutes after the break to build up his fitness and is 12/1 to register last.

Long shot: Much has been made of Inter’s attack but Roma possess one of the division’s most formidable hitmen in Edin Dzeko. It is no secret Conte wanted the forward in his squad upon his arrival but the Bosnian proved loyal to the Lupi. Both defences are likely to be busy throughout and an entertaining 2-2 final scoreline is 13/1.
