Inter v Sampdoria Predictions and Preview
After the euphoria of their Derby della Madonnina triumph over arch rivals Milan, confidence was understandably high in Antonio Conte’s camp. The Nerazzurri produced an epic fightback and emphatically threw down the gauntlet to Juventus who had surprisingly lost to Verona the previous night.
Yet, Inter will now have to regain the precious momentum they had built up, following the defeat at Stadio Olimpico seven days later. Conte’s troops took the lead through Ashley Young but individual mistakes cost the Nerazzurri the match as the natives celebrated wildly in the stands.
Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez failed to score against the Aquile and will be hungry to make their mark when Sampdoria’s leaky defence visits.
Lukaku is one shy of the 20-goal mark in his debut campaign in Italy and, statistically, throughout his career, has made the sides further down the table suffer. The Belgian is 5/2 to open proceedings while his strike partner is 7/2 in the same betting.
The rumours surrounding Martinez’s future continue to intensify with Barcelona known admirers of the South American. The latest reports suggest the Catalan outfit are keen on including Antoine Griezmann in any deal but for the meantime, the Argentine will have one goal and that is to win the championship with Inter.
The home team are 3/10 to emerge victorious and get back on track.
Visitors Sampdoria suffered a crushing loss in the previous gameweek. Claudio Ranieri’s group were thumped 5-1 by Fiorentina could find themselves in the bottom three if neighbours Genoa better their result this weekend.
Evergreen Fabio Quagliarella is 2/1 to register anytime and despite his advancing years, is still a significant threat.
One to watch for Inter: Christian Eriksen was a second-half substitute in Rome and is gradually nearing a starting berth. The Dane is likely to play a similar role against the Ligurians and is 13/2 to score the final effort.
One to watch for Sampdoria: On a personal level, Manolo Gabbiadini can be pleased with his season and the former Southampton ace is 14/1 in the same final scorer betting.
Long shot: In their last five games, Sampdoria have been on the receiving end of two five-goal beatings and also conceded four against Napoli. Ominously for Doria, the Nerazzurri have comfortably dispatched the sides in and around the relegation zone and it could be a long 90 minutes for the travelling party if they concede early on. A 5-0 scoreline in favour of Inter is 30/1.
