Inter vs. Sassuolo Predictions and Preview
Confidence is high in the home dressing room after trouncing Benevento 6-2 in the Coppa Italia Round of 16. Luciano Spalletti went with a mixture of first choice and fringe players with Antonio Candreva, Dalbert and Lautaro Martinez impressing. Candreva has lost his place in the starting line-up this term to compatriot Matteo Politano but may have done enough to keep his place following his double against the Serie B outfit. The former Aquile man is 9/5 in the anytime market.
Martinez is another selection dilemma for Spalletti. The Argentine also netted twice in the thrashing and would feature at the expense of either Borja Valero or Matias Vecino. Martinez, who has displayed a knack of finding space in the closing stages, is a worthy candidate in the last scorer market, priced at 13/4. Icardi is the overwhelming favourite to open proceedings at 5/2 while Inter are 2/5 to claim maximum points.
Travelling party Sassuolo are 11th in the table but have cause for concern defensively. The Neroverdi have shipped a whopping 11 efforts from their last 270 minutes of football and now have a minus goal difference as a result. On a more positive note, Roberto De Zerbi’s troops have had no issues going forward, notching 30 strikes from their 19 league matches.
The goalscoring burden has been shared between Berardi, Khouma Babacar and Kevin-Prince Boateng, and the former Milan fan favourite will relish getting one over the fans that will boo his every touch. Boateng is 11/4 to bag anytime while Sassuolo are 8/1 to chalk up the triumph.
One to watch for Inter: Keita Balde’s haul of four is only bettered by Icardi and the ex-Lazio starlet can expect to feature after the break. Balde is 9/2 to hit the game’s final goal.
One to watch for Sassuolo: Alfred Duncan hit a brace in the recent 6-2 mauling at the hands of Atalanta and the midfielder deservedly emerged with credit despite the scoreline. Interestingly, Duncan began his career at Inter and is 28/1 in the same last scorer market.
Long shot: Sassuolo may be out of form but will have no inferiority complex when they travel to Milan. The Neroverdi have won the last three league meetings between the sides and know they can beat Inter home and away. A 3-1 success can be found at 105/1.
