Inter vs. SPAL Predictions and Preview
While Gennaro Gattuso’s men are flying high, Inter are in turmoil. The Nerazzurri have lost three of their last six matches and would have been out of the top four altogether had Roma won – and handsomely, against Lazio in the previous gameweek.
As it were, Simone Inzaghi’s Aquile earned the Derby day bragging rights but Inter should be looking nervously over their shoulder in the final three months of the campaign.
Inter’s most recent defeat came at the hands of lowly Cagliari. The Sardinians ran out 2-1 winners and would have been delighted not to see Icardi’s name on the team-sheet. The Argentine, recently stripped of the captaincy, has showed no willingness to make himself available for selection again and the Nerazzurri are suffering as a result.
His replacement, compatriot Lautaro Martinez, has performed well to his credit and has been one of Luciano Spalletti’s better performers over the last fortnight. Martinez is 13/2 to open the scoring while the hosts are 4/11 to secure all three points.
Visitors SPAL are also in a bad run of form. The Spallini have lost three of their last five games, a stark contrast to a sequence of three wins from the opening four clashes of the season. SPAL sit five points above the safety line and desperately need a result, particularly with fixtures against Lazio, Roma, Juventus and Napoli still to come.
One to watch for Inter: There is an increased onus on Ivan Perisic to deliver in the absence of Icardi and the Croatian is 15/8 in the anytime scorer market.
One to watch for SPAL: Andrea Petagna has a very respectable 10 league goals to his name and is the chief threat for the travelling party. The former Milan attacker is 3/1 in the same betting.
Long shot: Inter may be on home soil, but won’t have it all their own way against a SPAL side that carry a genuine goal threat. A 2-2 scoreline is 25/1, further heightening the pressure surrounding Spalletti and his players.
