Inter v Torino Predictions and Preview

Inter began the new campaign with a 1-0 loss at Sassuolo, who finished in the bottom half of Serie A last term. Torino, meanwhile, fell to defeat by the same scoreline at home to Roma. This could be another tight game, especially considering the visitors are unbeaten in their last three games against the Nerazzurri.

Luciano Spalletti’s side were undone by a first-half Domenico Berardi penalty last Sunday, and were unable to find a response in the hour of football that followed. That was despite the introduction of World Cup finalist Ivan Perisic, and the Croatia forward will expect to start this game.

He won’t be lining up alongside new signing Radja Nainggolan though, as the Belgian midfielder has a muscle injury. That could be for the best after the former Roma man was pictured flipping his middle finger to a camera when out clubbing this week.

Inter are looking to improve on last season’s fourth-placed finish, and they’re desperate to close the gap to Juventus. The Nerazzurri finished some 23 points behind their Turin rivals last term, and they need to be careful they don’t slip further back after a certain Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival. The hosts are 8/15 for the win.

Torino are 6/1 and they’ll approach the game with a degree of confidence after their impressive recent results against Inter. As well as their victory in the most recent meeting, Il Toro got a 2-2 draw at the San Siro last season, and also won on their two previous visits to the Giuseppe Meazza.

Walter Mazzarri’s side were somewhat unfortunate to lose against Roma last time out, denied a goal for offside by VAR, before Edin Dzeko’s 89th-minute goal winner. New forward M’Baye Niang could be available for his debut after signing from Inter’s city rivals AC Milan, as he hopes for a spot up top alongside Andrea Belotti.

One to watch for Inter: Captain Mauro Icardi helped himself to 29 goals in 34 Serie A appearances last term. The Argentinian was unfortunate not to go to the World Cup, but should be well rested for Inter’s upcoming campaign. He’s 37/13 for the first goal.

One to watch for Torino: Andrea Belotti only managed 10 goals in 32 appearances last season after a prolific return of 26 the year before. Torino’s captain is looking to get back to his best goalscoring form, and is available at 10/1 for the first goal.

Long shot: Both teams should go for it in this game after losing their opening fixtures. With that in mind, things could open up, bringing another 2-2 draw between the sides into play. That’s priced at 17/1, with the odds increasing to 35/1 with Icardi as the first scorer.
