Italy v Poland Predictions and Preview

Roberto Mancini is the latest high-profile figure in the sport to test positive for coronavirus. Assistant coach Alberigo Evani will deputise for the former Manchester City title winner and preparations have been hit further by the absence of key personnel.

Francesco Caputo joins a lengthy list including Francesco Acerbi, Bryan Cristante, Gianluca Mancini, Gaetano Castrovilli and usual regulars Nicolo Barella, Cristiano Biraghi, Danilo D’Ambrosio and Ciro Immobile who are all in self-isolation.

Evani is likely to hand Andrea Belotti another chance to impress. The Torino skipper is the top scoring Italian in Serie A and only Zlatan Ibrahimovic has netted more. Belotti is 9/2 to open proceedings and will be flanked by Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Chiesa.

The Napoli idol and new Juventus addition are trusted performers for Mancini but there is fierce competition for places in the forward positions with Moise Kean, Stephan El Shaarawy and a more consistent Domenico Berardi all pushing for more game time.

Berardi broke on to the scene in 2013 and was touted as the Azzurri’s next big thing. The Sassuolo ace has been linked to all the top sides in his homeland but is now playing to his full potential under Roberto De Zerbi, achieving the best goalscoring tally of his career last season.

The 26-year-old will initially have to settle for a place on the bench but should get minutes in the second-half. Berardi is 6/1 to notch the final effort and Insigne is 13/5 in the anytime market. Italy are 4/6 to emerge triumphant and leapfrog their opponents in the process.

Jerzy Brzęczek has a number of Serie A based players in his squad. Wojciech Szczęsny, Kamil Glik, Piotr Zielinski, Karol Linetty and Arek Milik will all battle it out with club team-mates but it will be Robert Lewandowski who is tasked with leading the Eagles to victory.

The Bayern Munich hotshot is arguably the finest number nine in world football and is 11/2 to break the deadlock. Poland are 17/4 to come away with the spoils and a draw is 27/10.

One to watch for Italy: There was much surprise when PSG brought in Moise Kean after the striker’s dismal time with Everton, but only Kylian Mbappe has scored more for the Parisians this campaign. Kean is 6/1 to bag last.

One to watch for Poland: Milik is in the wilderness at San Paolo due to contractual issues but is still trusted by Brzęczek. The burly attacker is 11/4 to register anytime.

Long shot: The Azzurri have plundered in the goals throughout Mancini’s tenure but have surprisingly struggled during this Nations League edition. Despite this, the four-time World Champions are favourites to get the better of Poland and have been backed to show their class. A comprehensive 4-1 result in favour of the home dressing room is 40/1.
