Italy vs. United States International Friendly Betting Tips and Preview

Cristal Arena Stadionplein Genk Panoramio 2

This is a friendly Italy could probably do without. Their goalless draw at home to Portugal on Saturday means they failed to reach the finals of the Nations League, and their players might struggle to get themselves up to face the United States in Belgium.

Where and when: Luminus Arena – 20 November, kick-off 19:45

Where you can see Italy vs. United States: Sky Sports, William Hill live streaming

Last time: The US beat Italy 1-0 the last time they met, which was in a friendly in Genoa back in 2012.

Italy v United States Predictions and Preview

It’s a slightly odd one this. The United States follow up their friendly against England at Wembley with a trip to Genk to play Italy. The US will be determined to put in a good performance after a nightmarish 2018, while the same could be said for Italy’s year.

The Azzurri are undoubtedly at a low point, after they followed up their failure to reach the World Cup by losing out to Portugal in their Nations League group. Most Italians will be glad to see the back of this year, but there’s still this friendly to navigate first.

Roberto Mancini’s side start as strong favourites for the win, priced at 11/20. Italy have only won two of their last 12 matches, with one of those a friendly at home to Saudi Arabia. Their opponents on Tuesday are also in a rut though, winning just one of their last seven fixtures after also failing to make the World Cup.

The USA are 7/1 to pick up what would be a huge victory for them, despite their hosts’ current malaise. It would also give caretaker boss Dave Sarachan a huge claim to take up the reigns on a permanent basis.

A draw is probably the best the away team can hope for though, after they were comfortably beaten 3-0 against England on Thursday. Considering there’s a good chance the Italian players will be relatively uninterested in this game, and Mancini could make sweeping changes, the draw could be worth a look at 16/5.

It’s tough to know what sort of a team the hosts will send out, although the likes of Kevin Lasagna, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Domenico Berardi could be handed a chance to impress from the start after they each came off the bench in Italy’s goalless draw against Portugal. Timothy Weah should get another chance for the US, while Christian Pulisic is the star attraction.

One to watch for Italy: Fiorentina youngster Federico Chiesa could be handed a start here. The 21-year-old has two goals in 11 games for his club this season, and is 13/2 to break the deadlock with his first goal for the Azzurri.

One to watch for United States: Both US and Italy fans alike will be hoping Pulisic starts this game. The 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund forward is a real talent, and 14/1 to open the scoring.

Long shot: The United States won 1-0 the last time the countries locked horns, which was also in Italy. The visitors are 16/1 to win this game by the same margin.
