Juventus vs. Barcelona Champions League Betting Tips and Preview

Juventus and Barcelona crests ahead of their Champions League fixture

The second week of Champions League fixtures serves up a potential blinder between European heavyweights Juventus and Barcelona. Neither side are without their issues at present though, and will we see the latest instalment of Messi vs Ronaldo?

Where and when: Allianz Stadium – 28 October, kick-off 20:00

Where you can see Juventus vs. Barcelona: BT Sport

Last time: The teams shared a goalless draw the last time they met, which was also in Turin in the Champions League back in November 2017.

Juventus v Barcelona Predictions and Preview

Barcelona have the upper hand against Juventus in recent years, with the Catalan giants unbeaten in their last four matches against the Old Lady, winning two – even if one of those was in the International Champions Cup. Juve have only won one of the last six, although that was an impressive 3-0 victory in the 2017 Champions League quarter-finals in Turin.

The Bianconeri have failed to score in their three competitive games against the Blaugrana since, although they didn’t have a certain Cristiano Ronaldo for any of those matches. Juve’s quest to hit the back of the net in this game will have a lot to do with the availability of their No.7. The Serie A champions are doing their best to ensure the Portuguese forward plays on Wednesday, following a positive coronavirus test while on international duty recently.

Lionel Messi has stated that he hopes his great rival is able to compete, as these two superstars bid to do battle once more. Barca’s No.10 is showing signs of flickering back into life following a tumultuous summer and a slow start to the season, but Ronald Koeman needs more from the mercurial Argentine – even if he did open the scoring in his team’s Champions League opener.

Last Tuesday’s 5-1 rout of Ferencvaros papered over a few cracks, with Barca struggling in La Liga ahead of the weekend’s first Clasico of the season. Much bigger tests are to come in Europe, as the club attempts to rise from the wreckage of their 8-2 demolition at the hands of Bayern Munich just a couple of months ago.

Those tests start this week, as Juve look to build on their 2-0 win away to Dynamo Kyiv in their own opening Group G fixture. These two giants are set to duke it out for top spot, although the visitors won’t be able to call on the services of Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Samuel Umtiti for this particular battle.

Giorgio Chiellini and Alex Sandro are doubts for the home team, while the exciting Weston McKennie is also likely to miss out due to a positive Covid-19 test. Ronaldo’s involvement, whenever that’s confirmed, will have an influence on the odds, but the latest Juventus v Barcelona predictions see Barca start as the slight favourites at 8/5. Juve are 39/20, while the draw’s priced at 5/2

One to watch for Juventus: Cristiano Ronaldo is desperate to play in this game and face his old foe once again, and he’ll certainly be one to watch should he get the nod.

One to watch for Barcelona: Lionel Messi will also want to be at his best in this game – don’t underestimate the Argentine’s ego and desire to be the best in the world.

Long shot: Two of the last three Champions League meetings between these clubs have ended goalless. But rather than backing another 0-0 draw at 12/1, we’re hoping for an entertaining, high-scoring affair on Wednesday night. Three of their last five meetings in this competition have seen one of the teams score exactly three goals, with Juventus 19/1 to win this game 3-1. Add Ronaldo as the first scorer for even bigger odds.
