Juventus v Cagliari Predictions and Preview

The hosts’ defensive issues have worsened over the international break as Leonardo Bonucci joined Giorgio Chiellini on the treatment table. The Bianconeri skipper is out for the next four weeks, while his compatriot is out for a similar period.

As a result, Matthijs de Ligt may be rushed back in to the first-team, despite not playing since early August. The talented Dutchman has been recovering from shoulder surgery and the intention was for the former Ajax captain to be eased back in to the line-up.

De Ligt should comprise a back three alongside Danilo and Merih Demiral with Juan Cuadrado and Federico Chiesa operating as wing-backs.

Paulo Dybala will again have to settle for a place on the substitutes bench. Alvaro Morata is Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner in attack and the loanee has been in fine form during his second stint with the champions.

Pirlo was expected to bring in either Edin Dzeko or Arek Milik, but it was Morata who made the switch back to Turin and the forward has struck on six occasions and laid on two assists from his first eight appearances. Morata is 10/3 to open proceedings and, much like old team-mate Karim Benzema, is the perfect foil for Ronaldo.

The Portuguese legend is 21/10 favourite to break the deadlock and has set his sights on personal and collective accolades in what could be his last campaign with the Italian heavyweights. Chiesa and Dejan Kulusevski are 11/8 and 6/4, respectively, to bag anytime and Juventus are 1/3 to emerge triumphant.

Travelling party Cagliari have an impressive spine in Alessio Cragno, Diego Godin, Nahitan Nández, Joao Pedro and Giovanni Simeone, with Leonardo Pavoletti back after a long spell out.

Only Ciro Immobile, Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku and Francesco Caputo scored more than Pedro last term and the Brazilian is an attractive 10/1 to register first. Partner Simeone is 9/1 in the same betting and already has five efforts to his name. The Sardinians are 13/2 to come away with the spoils and a tie is 9/2.

One to watch for Juventus: Adrien Rabiot is back in the fold with France and has been the Bianconeri’s standout midfielder this campaign. The former PSG ace is 14/1 to hit the last effort.

One to watch for Cagliari: The Sardinians beat off competition from Napoli to land Nández last summer and the Uruguayan’s sterling performances have not gone unnoticed. Chelsea, Arsenal and Inter have all been linked to the 24-year-old in recent months and the fan favourite is 11/1 to net anytime.

Long shot: Cagliari are exciting to watch and it is likely to be an eventful 90 minutes at both ends of the pitch. The Sardinians average two goals a match, but, equally, have shipped 15 from seven encounters and this trend is likely to continue. A 3-2 success in favour of the away dressing room is 20/1.
