Juventus and Napoli club crests ahead of their Serie A fixture on October

The big games are coming thick and fast for Juventus, as the Serie A champions welcome Napoli to the Allianz Stadium on Sunday night. The visitors have made a good start to the new season following an awful campaign last time round, but there’s no tougher game in Italian football right now.

Last time: Napoli beat Juventus on penalties in the Coppa Italia final in June, following a goalless draw at the end of 90 minutes.

Juventus v Napoli Predictions and Preview

Napoli’s victory over Juventus in last season’s cup final followed a home win for each side in the league, with the Azzurri’s 2-1 victory in Naples ending a run of three straight wins for Juve in this fixture. That includes a dramatic 4-3 win for the Bianconeri in last season’s corresponding fixture at the Allianz Stadium, the highest-scoring encounter between these clubs since the same result in 1993.

Considering the goalscoring form these two teams have begun the new season in, we could be in for another entertaining affair this weekend, with an over 4.5 goals bet priced at 6/1. Both teams have scored in seven of the last eight Serie A meetings between the teams, with the same again here 10/11. Over 6.5 goals again, meanwhile, is available at 33/1, with a 4-3 Juve win at 200/1

If you’re more interested in outright Juventus vs Napoli predictions, the home team are the 5/6 favourites with William Hill. The Old Lady have started their latest title defence with a 3-0 victory over Sampdoria, before a gutsy 2-2 away to Roma. The players seem a lot happier under Andrea Pirlo than Maurizio Sarri, and that bodes well for the weeks and months ahead.

Napoli’s start to the new campaign bodes well too, with Pirlo’s former teammate and fellow World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso guiding his team to two wins from two. The Azzurri secured a 2-0 win away to Parma in their opening match, before a resounding 6-0 demolition of Genoa on Sunday. After finishing seventh and out of the European places last term, the omens are good for Napoli.

They perhaps aren’t so good for this game in particular though, with the visitors priced at 7/2 to continue their early momentum with a massive three points. It’s a tough ask for Napoli, but Gattuso does have a fully-fit squad available, aside from Lorenzo Insigne who’s a doubt.

Pirlo, meanwhile, will be without the suspended Adrien Rabiot, as well as injured duo trio Matthijs de Ligt, Alex Sandro and Federico Bernardeschi, although the latter is nearly ready to play. If you think this game will end in a draw, that’s priced at 14/5

One to watch for Juventus: Cristiano Ronaldo has started the season with three goals in two games, including both of his team’s strikes against Roma last time out. The Portuguese forward is the 13/5 favourite to open the scoring on Sunday.

One to watch for Napoli: Dries Mertens may be entering his eighth season with Napoli as a veteran, but the experienced Belgian international is showing few signs of letting up. He’s netted in both of Napoli’s first two games and has four in four for club and country. He is 13/2 to break the deadlock here.

Long shot: There seems to be much less pressure on players with no fans inside stadiums, which can lead to higher scoring games than usual. We’re backing a lively affair here, with a 3-2 victory for Juventus priced at 25/1. If you add Ronaldo as the first goalscorer to that selection, the odds rise to a massive 92/1
