Juventus v Sampdoria Predictions and Preview
Juve come into this final match of the year looking to cement their place as Serie A’s runaway leaders. The Bianconeri have a nine-point lead at the top of the table, although they did draw with Atalanta on Boxing Day.
Those two dropped points ended a run of eight straight Serie A victories for Max Allegri’s side, but the Old Lady still extended their lead at the top of the tree thanks to Napoli’s defeat against Inter. Cristiano Ronaldo rescued a point for Juve in the 78th minute, preserving the champions’ unbeaten start to the season.
Sampdoria meanwhile were victorious on Boxing Day, beating Chievo 2-0 at home. That was their third win on the bounce, taking Marco Giampaolo’s side to fifth in the table a point above Milan who drew at struggling Frosinone. With Roma a point further back, the Blucerchiati are keeping esteemed company as they try to rekindle their glory days of old.
|Juve to win 3-0||11/2||Offer|
|Juve to win 5-0||25/1||Offer|
|Juve to win both halves||6/4||Offer|
That won’t help them on Saturday though, and we can fully expect the Juve steam train to keep rolling towards an eighth successive Serie A title. Allegri’s side are 1/4 for the win, so you’ll need to get creative with your bets in the hunt for some value on the hosts. If you think a shock’s on the cards though, after Sampdoria beat Juve 3-2 at home last season, the away win here’s priced at 18/1.
One thing certainly working in the visitors’ favour is their injury record. Bartosz Bereszynski has returned to training, giving Giampaolo a clean bill of health. Juve meanwhile have Rodrigo Bentancur suspended, with Joao Cancelo and Andrea Barzagli both out and Blaise Matuidi, Juan Cuadrado, Federico Bernardeschi and Moise Kean all doubts.
If you think those injuries will take their toll on Juve and help Samp get a draw, you can back that at 11/2. More likely though is a home win with over 2.5 goals. That bet would’ve paid out for this fixture in each of the last three season, and is available at 4/5.
One to watch for Juventus: Ronaldo scored his 12th league goal of the season to preserve Juve’s unbeaten record on Boxing Day, and he’s the 5/2 favourite to open the scoring in this one.
One to watch for Sampdoria: Veteran striker Fabio Quagliarella only has one goal fewer than Ronaldo so far this season, and he could be worth a look at 14/1 to net first on Saturday.
Long shot: Juve have hammered Sampdoria 4-1 and 5-0 in recent seasons, and any team with Ronaldo in it’s capable of racking up a big score. The Old Lady are 25/1 to bring the curtain down on the first half of the season in style by winning this game 5-0.
