RB Leipzig are looking to shore up their status as one of the favourites to finish in the top four as they visit FC Koln on Monday evening. The home team find themselves languishing in mid-table obscurity, and need to put a run together fast if they’re to push on and challenge for a Europa League spot.

Koln v RB Leipzig Predictions and Preview

RB Leipzig have held the upper hand over Koln since they were promoted to the Bundesliga in 2016. The teams drew their first ever meeting 1-1 at the RheinEnergieStadion, with Die Roten Bullen winning three of the four matches since.

Koln’s sole victory came courtesy of a 2-1 success in Leipzig last season, although that was more than two years ago and Die Bullen have gone from strength to strength since. The visitors have one of Europe’s hottest properties in Timo Werner, with the German striker helping himself to a hat-trick away to Mainz last weekend.

Koln have been in pretty decent goalscoring form themselves since the return to action following the Bundesliga’s enforced break. Die Geissbocke haven’t been turning that into wins though, having drawn 2-2 with both Mainz and Fortuna Dusseldorf in their first two matches back.

Markus Gisdol’s side have a comfortable gap to the relegation reckoning, while catching sixth-placed Wolfsburg seems fanciful. With little to play for and no home fans cheering them on, it’s no surprise that Koln start as the 19/4 underdogs in this game.

Leipzig meanwhile are the 4/7 favourites, having gone nine games unbeaten prior to their home game against Hertha Berlin on Wednesday. Julian Nagelsmann’s side could haul themselves back into the title picture with a solid run of wins, while Borussia Dortmund’s defeat to Bayern Munich means second place is a realistic target.

Although the best odds are for the away win, Die Bullen have drawn three of their last four Bundesliga fixtures, and five of their last eight. With that in mind, a draw could be worth a look here at 37/10, while Leipzig-draw in the double chance market may only be worth odds of 1/6 but could be a little boost for your weekend accumulator bet.

One to watch for Koln: Jhon Cordoba is Koln’s top scorer this season with 11 league goals from 23 appearances. Only 17 of those have been starts, but we can surely expect to see the Colombian in the home team’s starting line-up after eight goals in his last 10 games. He netted a dramatic injury time equaliser against Dusseldorf last weekend and is 17/2 to bag the opener on Monday.

One to watch for RB Leipzig: Timo Werner broke the deadlock against Mainz last weekend and also in the reverse of this fixture earlier this season, and is now on 24 Bundesliga goals in 27 games across the campaign. He has 30 in all competitions and is the 3/1 favourite to open the scoring here.

Long shot: Leipzig may have seen a few victories slip through their hands in recent matches, but they showed against Mainz that they have the power to blow teams away. After beating Koln 4-1 at the Red Bull Arena earlier this season, Die Bullen are 19/1 to win by the same scoreline in the return. With Werner scoring first in a 4-1 scorecast, those odds rise to a massive 69/1
