Lazio v Inter Predictions and Preview
Champions Inter have a made a strong start to their title defence, going through their first seven games unbeaten. However, the Nerazzurri have ground to make up on the even faster starting Napoli, and they can ill afford to fall further behind when they visit Lazio this weekend.
The capital club have shown signs of adapting to Maurizio Sarri’s methods at times, most notably in beating local rivals Roma 3-2 towards the end of September. However, they followed that up with a poor performance in losing 3-0 away to Bologna in their last match before the international break.
Francesco Acerbi was sent off late in that game, meaning he misses out on this match. Ciro Immobile is another key absence due to injury, while Mattia Zaccagni is also out and Bobby Adekanye is a doubt as he continues to recover from a knee problem.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s methods certainly seem to be working in Milan, but there’s likely to be a hostile reception for him at the Stadio Olimpico after he walked out on Lazio for the champions this summer. Inzaghi could be missing Stefano Sensi and Gabriel Brazao for this game, with both players still struggling with knee injuries.
The Nerazzurri didn’t need either of those players in their 2-1 win away to Sassuolo just before the break, as the champions returned to winning ways in the immediate aftermath of their 2-2 draw with Atalanta. Despite winning five of their seven Serie A fixtures so far, Inter find themselves four points behind the thus far perfect Napoli.
The visitors are the 5/4 favourites in this Lazio v Inter preview, although they don’t have the best record away to Le Aquile. The teams drew 1-1 in last season’s corresponding fixture, while the Biancocelesti came from behind to win 2-1 the year before.
A close game is expected, but this is also a fixture that could produce goals. Each of the last three meetings between the teams has seen both teams score, with the same outcome here priced at 4/7. Back in the outright market, Lazio are 27/11 for the win, while the draw is available at 5/2.
One to watch for Lazio: Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has scored in four of his last five games against Inter, including each of the last three. He has two goals so far this season and is 10/1 to continue his fine goalscoring record against the Nerazzurri by breaking the deadlock here.
One to watch for Inter: Lautaro Martinez scored in both Serie A meetings between these sides last season, including the opener at the Stadio Olimpico. The Argentine has already notched five goals this term and is 5/1 to score first in these Lazio v Inter predictions.
Long shot: Lazio haven’t lost either of their last two home games against the Nerazzurri. The capital club are 11/1 to repeat their 2-1 triumph over the champions from the season before last, ending their unbeaten start to this campaign in the process. If you’re looking for bigger odds in these Lazio v Inter tips, try adding Milinkovic-Savic as the opening goalscorer for 131/1.
